The band, not the american football team...
Maybe it was their polotics, maybe it was goverment suppresion, maybe it was yer man Chris Dean's boxing boots and tintin quiff, but so how this band are not as well remembered as they should be. The were pretty big in the 80s, signing to Decca, appearing on the tube and making music videos but they seem to have been forgotten to some extent. Well they shouldn't be, the lyrics are still relevant and the music ain't aged too bad either.

Yes, as I remember two (of the three) of them were in the SWP. I seem to remember the drummer being an anarcho-syndicalist. They were pretty much the SWP house band (not as in the musical genre), and the title of their only album was the SWP slogan, 'Neither Washington Nor Moscow...but International socialism'. I saw them a couple of times during the miners strike, and got very drunk with one of them one night after a miners' benefit concert that we were involved in putting on.
The best musical moments were, in my opinion, 'Lean On Me', which the NME described at the time as "the return of the Northern Soul classic", and 'Keep On Keeping On', which my little sister described as 'the downturn set to music'.

thanks alot for the post. This band has been a crutch for me when im dog tried at work, or when internal party politics get heavy. I take a few of their songs with a grain of salt, myself being a CWIer, im thinking of songs like peasent army; but i dont think their are to many bands our their that have been as talented and political as this band.
this band is simply awesome!
also, check out skindeep, the burial, red alert, angelic upstarts, blitz, the movement, red london, and of course Stiff little fingers. all socialist bands.

Well.. I ain't a fan of the swp, but their 'house band' as Devrim calls them, had some tunes in them.

Yeah I'm aware of all those bands, but anyone reading this thread not should check them out (though I always found skin deep to be a bit weak musically and some of the burial stuff is too pop for me- though to be fair they were ahead of their time in otherways (with the ska punk sound) and sometimes I find red london a little cheesy, but some of their stuff is deadly).
On an off topic note, Devrim- where you born in this end of europe then moved east? Or have you always lived in Turkey and just spent a lot of time here?
