That guy performed in my town during our annual music festival. I think I got his autograph too.

Since this thread was made I have been listening to him a bit. I actually quite like his music. It is relaxing in its sound, but pushes a strong message at the same time. I might burn myself a cd of it.

His track "Somalia" is the best.

Also, he took a principled stance on the Somali pirates, putting them in the context of the situation in Somalia and the situation there, at a time when all of the major news outlets outlook on the Somali pirates were that the were scum who needed a bullet.

I just got an infraction for saying the aforementioned rapper 'blows horribly'. Apparently that was 'homophobic'. Is K'naan gay or something? I had no idea?

The point was that you were using a sex act generally performed by womyn/homosexual men as a pejorative.
I'm well aware that you most likely didn't mean it in that way ( I wasn't the one who gave you an infraction), and I'm also aware that this is a fairly common expression in the anglosphere, especially North America.
Still, be conscious of prejudicial undertones in everyday language.

Oh come on, 'blows' is not homophobic or sexist! That's absolutely ridiculous. If anyone's read the Famous Five, those private school kids from the early 20th century say 'blow' or 'this blows' all the time, it has absolutely no sexual connotations.
Is it homophobic to tell someone to 'stick it up your ass'? Or 'stick it where the sun don't shine'?
I hate to say it... but this is PC gone mad.

^This.
I definitely had no homophobic intentions when criticising K'naan.
And for what it's worth, I don't actually think it's that bad anymore after a further listen.

Sorry, we'll all say 'this licks out' or something next time.
