Hi, my name is Michael. I have been political for a while. From from early 2003 to late 2004, I was a supporter of the New Democratic Party (NDP), Canada's main social democratic party. However, I came to the conclusion, which I hold today, that poverty, bigotry and war are endemic to capitalism and came to the conclusion that the NDP has no intention of overturning the capitalist system.

From Fall 2004 to Spring 2005 I was a member of a Vancouver-based organization called Mobilization Against War and Occupation (MAWO). This group was one of many front groups of a group called Fire This Time (FTT). I left this group because of its uncritical support for Islamic forces. I was greatly disturbed by the fact that they disappeared any mention of women or gay rights whenever they were in the presence of a Muslim clerics, who regularly were featured at their rallies and forums. I was also disturbed when the head of that group and another prominent member of that group approached an ex-member of that group and broke his glass. One of the two has confessed and has shown remorse while the leader of the group still hasn't taken any responsibility.

From Summer 2005 to Spring 2008 I was a sympathizer for what I now consider to be a grossly misnamed group the Trotskyist League of Canada (TL) which is the Canadian section of, I believe to be equally grossly misnamed, the International Communist League (Fourth Internationalist) (ICL-FI). I left that group to what I perceive to be deep insinuation with ablest bigotry to the point of apologizing for the killers of the disabled as well as what I perceive to be cult-like internal workers. Questioning the line is frowned upon in that group, debate is rare and their is a real cult of personality around the groups leader James Robertson. Most of this groups critics refer to this group as the Sparts.

Since then I have been between organizations however I probably lean most towards the International Bolshevik Tendency and to a lesser extent the League for the Fourth International. I have learned from experience that it is crucial to thoroughly examine a group inside-out before supporting it. It is easy to get stuck in a bankrupt organization and not everyone is who they say they are. I definitely think that that is the case with FTT and the ICL-FI.

Today I consider myself a Trotskyist.

Welcome :)

Your line in the "Organisation" field is a bit on the long side, could you perhaps shorten it?

Maybe just shorten it to "sympathetic to IBT and IG", many here know them already.

Oh boy I wish this didn't sound familiar. Be sure never to criticize the burqa or some people here think you are Hitler himself.

Welcome, fellow Vancouverite! I suffered through the Trotskyist League as well, although there was an additional ideological barrier
