I recommend reading Looking Forward, a book that goes over the failures of capitalism while providing an alternative economic system that meets many socialist goals.
A summary of the system they propose is here: http://www.zcommunications.org/parecon-future-and-present-by-michael-albert
The actual book is here: http://books.zcommunications.org/ParEcon/lookingforward/toc.htm

There's also this, which goes to show how efficiently goods were being distributed during the stagflationary period in the 70s in Britain: http://www.marxists.org/archive/foot-paul/1977/wysbas/ch1.htm
It still applies today in a lot of areas.

I think first you should think about capitalism. Why is capitalism bad etc. Answer this first. Then choose an alternative economic system.

just as a general resource, marxists.org is great. a good deal of the stuff there is pretty difficult to read, but if you're interested enough you can slog your way through it :D

That's a project that all of us here can collaborate on. For all the factional arguments we have, that's the ONE thing we all agree on.

War, poverty, pollution, inadequate medical and educational services, political corruption, media censorship, regimented workplaces, you name it, capitalism is always the primary cause.

Well, I think you'll find that most critiques of the capitalist system are probably going to provide an alternative system/strategy that they endorse. My point is not to seek out literature that only deals with why capitalism is bad, but to read as much communist, socialist, anarchist etc literature you can get your hands on, but read it critically. Make up your own mind, don't be too credulous.
