The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine in Beddawi refugee camp in Northern Lebanon held a mass rally on March 28, 2010, marking Land Day and commemorating the lives of the martyrs and leaders Wadie Haddad and Omar Quteish. Comrade Wadie Haddad, a co-founder of the PFLP, renowned for his bravery and innovation in military and political actions, died on March 28, 1978 in East Germany, while Comrade Omar Quteish, Political Bureau member of the PFLP, died on March 19, 2010.

The Land Day commemoration was widely attended by PFLP cadres, members and leaders, as well as representatives of Palestinian and Lebanese popular committees, political parties, and student, women's and youth organizations. Comrade Abu Ali Fathi welcomed the audience, followed by a speech by Comrade Marwan Abdel-Al, member of the Political Bureau of the Front.

Comrade Abdel-Al recalled that the first piece of PFLP literature he read or distributed was given to him by Omar Quteish in 1969 in Nahr el-Bared camp, describing Comrade Quteish's life, achievements and dedication to struggle. He also recalled the life of Comrade Haddad, and upheld both as examples for our struggle today.

Comrade Abdel-Al spoke about Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, reiterating that the struggle to return home is a pillar of the Palestinian cause that is at the heart of the Palestinian political movement. He also emphasized the importance of civil, social and human rights for Palestinians in Lebanon, emphasizing that Palestinians' rights provide strength to struggle to return and resist all resettlement schemes.

Speakers from Lebanese political parties, including the Lebanese Communist Party, addressed the crowd, calling for national unity, the achievement of return and liberation for Palestine, and emphasizing that the only option is resistance and armed struggle until liberation.

Comrade Jamil Majdalawi, member of the Political Bureau of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine addressed the Land Day commemoration and mass rally held by Abnaa el-Balad in Umm el-Fahm in occupied Palestine '48, speaking by telephone from Gaza. Comrade Majdalawi called for unity of the Palestinian people throughout Palestine and everywhere in diaspora and exile, in order to secure the liberation of all of Palestine, with equality and democracy for all.

The mass rally, held on March 26, 2010, included various national democratic organizations of Palestinians in the occupied homeland of '48. Mohamed Zeidan, head of the Higher Follow-up Committee, Ayman Jabarin, member of the Municipal Council of Umm el-Fahm, Raja Aghbarieh, of Abna'a el-Balad, and other speakers addressed the crowd, followed by song, dance and poetry performances.

Land Day (Yom al-Ard) was borne of the struggle of Palestinians in the occupied lands of 1948, when, on March 30, 1976, when six Palestinians were killed protesting Zionist land confiscation in Palestine '48 as Zionist soldiers attacked a mass general strike and protest.

Comrade Majdalawi stressed that the same battle that gave birth to Land Day is that which began with the Zionist invasion of Palestine and continuing today, which is the same struggle continuing amid policies of settlement, land confiscation and Judaization reflecting the the aggressive, racist, expansionist nature of Zionism.

He stressed that the Palestinian people have never stopped resisting the Zionist invasion, throughout occupied Palestine and outside Palestine, in the camps and lands of exile. He recalled the founder of the PFLP, Dr. George Habash, al-Hakim, and the example he set for national unity, calling upon all to follow in those footsteps.

Negotiations must end, urges PFLP at Land Day commemoration in Lebanon

Comrade Ahmad Murad, a member of the Central Committee of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, spoke at a Land Day commemoration in South Lebanon, saying that it is clear that no one should rely on the illusion of "negotiations" or the "peace process," particularly in light of the Zionist campaign of murder, destruction and colonization taking place in Palestine, spearheaded by Zionist prime minister Bejamin Netanyahu.

Marking Land Day, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, the Lebanese Communist Party and the People's Movement held a political rally in Adloun, South Lebanon, attended by a wide range of Palestinian and Lebanese political parties, social groups and cultural organizations on April 1, 2010.

Comrade Murad stressed that Land Day - the anniversary of the March 30, 1976 demonstrations inside occupied Palestine 1948 - is in itself a demonstration of the impossibility of "coexistence" with the criminal enemy dedicated to the destruction of the Palestinian people, as well as a clear statement that the Palestinian people inside occupiesd Palestine 1948 are a fundamental component of the Palestinian Arab people.

He emphasized tht Land Day addresses the spirit of struggle and sacrifice in the face of ugly brutal occupation planted in our land by force of arms and tyranny, supported by forces of oppression and imperialism. Said Comrade Murad, the global terrorist campaign is ongoing since the beginning of the 20th century, in an attempt to write off our rights and prevent us from achieving our goals of freedom, independence and return to our entire national territory.

Comrade Murad called for a comprehensive and serious review of the Palestinian national political strategy, saying that an alternative approach is necessary completely away from the utterly failed "peace process" and "negotiations." He emphasized that it is necessary to restore our Palestinian national unity as a major weapon to confront the occupation's aggression and restore our rights, and to raise our level of resistance and steadfastness in all forms, as the only language that is understood by the enemy.

He added that the Palestinian people throughout occupied Palestine and in diaspora and exile reveal every day their insistence on adhering to our land, to resist all forms of settlement and uprooting, and their right to return to their land and homes, despite all suffering, injustice, killing and displacement.

Comrade Murad saluted the Lebanese resistance and its victories against Zionism, recalling as well the struggle of the Palestinians in Lebanon, and the shedding of Lebanese and Palestinian blood together in defending the land against the Zionist attacks.

He also addressed the situation of Palestinians in Lebanon, urging a new policy toward Palestinian refugees in Lebanon that supports their steadfastness, resistance and struggle to return home. Comrade Murad noted that Palestinians in Lebanon are treated as a security problem, guilty until proven innocent, when the camps of Lebanon are in fact the homes of resistance that fuel the Palestinian revolution until liberation and return.

Comrade Asad Ghandour of the People's Movement spoke as well, condemning the complicity of Arab regimes in the face of Zionist crimes and the U.S. siege against the Palestinian people. He emphasized the need to protect and expand the civil, social and human rights of Palestinians in Lebanon.

Comrade Mahdi Awali of the Lebanese Communist Party spoke, paying the highest respects and appreciation to the Palestinian people, their resistance, resilience and revolutionary heritage. He called for strengthening left-wing and democratic unity at an Arab level, to build a progressive future for the Arab people.
