Wow that's fucking amazing. I wonder what the person designing the uniforms was thinking. They were probably high watching Saving Private Ryan or something.

Contrary to what you might think, it's not because of Pinochet. The Chilean Army was organized on Prussian lines in the late 1800's. This may be due to the conflicts with British imperialism in that period, I'm not sure. The German-style helmet has also been adopted by a number of other countries for various historical reasons. In any event, the helmet and other old German-inspired regalia is now only used in Chile for ceremonial purposes.

Of course, it's purely ceremonial. I'm getting at Pinera.

I see no problem really. Honestly I like the German helmet style even though it is associated with Fascism.

That was in 2006, that's nothing compared to the 2009 march celebrating the 50th anniversary of PRC.

It includes the famous "girls in miniskirt" march.
Oh, and the girls aren't even soldiers. They're students, workers etc.
Take that, lousy Chilean fascists!

The prism with which you view the world is flawed--even prejudiced, if I may say so. When an average Westerner sees a military march or a propaganda poster (or Chinese guys in tracksuits (http://www.spiked-online.com/index.php/site/article/4963/)) the alarm bell in his brain immediately goes "OMFG FASCIST INDOCTRINATION!!!"
However, these are only formalities which by themselves do not carry any significance. All Chinese students, including I, went through the dreaded "military training" at least once during the summer breaks. It does toughen people up, and there were no indoctrination of the "party line".
It was once said, when Fascism comes to America, it will not be with brown shirts, it will be with smiley faces. Touche, George Carlin.

Maybe I'm weird or something, but I rather enjoy watching military marches. It is fun watching all the people marching in unison and seeing all the weaponry. I especially enjoyed the recent Chinese military parade.

I think the same of any soldier; I think the same of any statist propaganda. And I never called China fascist when it's clearly capitalist.

I liked this video of Trotsky with Red Army soldiers marching that I saw on YouTube a week ago (it had some cool songs over the top of it, some kind of Soviet anthems I presume).
