There are many great left wing bands but fact of the matter is that they are quite not as well known. We should try to showcase some more well know leftist bands or more anti-racist music. The fact they are popular in comparison means the message can be spread faster. Examples of this is Rage Against the Machine, they hold anti-imperialist viewsin the song 'Sleep Now in the Fire', what we need to do is spread music like this. We can also spread a bit more 'meme' music that also can be used to teach a lesson like 'Chocolate Rain' by Tay Zonday. What better way to spread a message than by music? Worked for Woodstock. :D

The problem I see is that some people say "Oh I don't really care about the lyrics." Which is why I have some really conservative friends who like RATM, but when i call them out on the politics, they dismiss it.

Although sometimes dissed by the "intellectual" hip-hop listeners, there is some politics returning in southern hip-hop. It's a little rough around the edges but definitely good.

There are a lot of bands with quiet vague politics that do well in the main stream like Flobots, Rise Against, Linkin Park( had some very leftist lyrics on there last album ), as did slipknot (There metal but they still have a pretty major audience), Billy Talent have some fairly leftistly inclined songs.

I think music can be one of our greatest propaganda tools. We need more mainstream leftist musicians, who aren't afraid to speak out and get involved. I mean seriously, no one in the U.S. (in recent years) has the kind of potential that RATM had to spark riots. :thumbup1: It's good that they've reunited for select shows, but I'd like to see a new album already!

That's because its not very often bands whose front men have militant anarchist views become popular in the mainstream, there mostly slightly leftist types :(

Rise Against are pretty big, not really a anti-capitalist band but sing about Vegan stuff.

Blue Scholars are 'indie' but not underground. They're signed to DuckDown Records with KRS1 & Buckshot.
CunninLynguists are also on that label & anti-racist.
Outkast has some left-liberal songs.

Mileage may vary, and this list isn't of bands who are wholly political, but off the top of my head: The Pogues, The Levellers, Billy Bragg, Dropkick Murphys, Black 47, Chumbawamba, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, Bad Religion, Green Day.
