I heard of Noam Chomsky from a comrade of mine and wanted to know some of his viewpoints and about his works.

Personally I love Chomsky, I bought then donated lots of his works. Hes VERY easy to read and if you havent, give it a shot.
My problems with him is that he reminds me of that girl from American Pie (this one time...at band camp). His books can be very repitative and he keeps going on about south america vs america.
If you only read 2 books by the man make sure one of them is Manufacturing Consent.
I'd name others but I'm sure I'd be shouted down, but Necessary Illusions is a good one too.
The rest of his work feels recycled and you should spend more time reading some of those dirty commie books I'm sure others will provide links too.
But in summation, Noam Chomsky is awesome but hes a bit of a one trick pony.

Please do! He has an asskicking way with words and next to Orwell and even James Joyce is one of my fav authors of all time. That wanker Chavez really touted Hegemony or survival, which was quite good. It kinda = all his other books other than those I described, but I'd really like to read his stuff. If you or anyone reading this gets lazy, onebigtorrent.org rocks for vids and stuff. Warning: the man himself will bore you to tears, but theres an interesting debate between himself and my philosophical hero, Michel Foucault.
If you've time watch that, I also think off the top of my head they have like a video version of manufacturing consent. If you're boring or bored, check out The Yes Men while you're on that site too because at least they're funny!

Chomsky tirelessly reiterates his themes about capitalism, the mendacity of the liberal media, the double standard that Israel gets from the bourgeois West, the true agenda of US foreign policy, etc. But it's necessary to cover old ground again and again for Americans since they live in the United States of Amnesia.
In addition to the books you mentioned I'd also recommend For Reasons of State (a Vietnam War era collection of essays,) Turning the Tide (his analysis of the Central America Wars of the 1980s,) The New Military Humanism (about the US-led NATO attack on Yugoslavia, still pertinent because imperial military intervention is still justified with humanitarian ideology,) and the current edition of The Fateful Triangle his exposure of actual US-Israeli plans for the Middle East.

If you're interested in Chomsky's non-political work, there was recently this really interesting thread over at the theory forum:

I don't entirely agree with the article, but it adequately summarizes and analyzes the main tenets of chomsky's contributions to linguistics.

Chomsky is good for the most part. I would definitely recommend Michael Parenti over Chomsky any day of the week.

Even if it was Linguistics Day?

Well, Parenti is a genious, but Chomsky and Parenti are the same, but different. Chomsy is more of an anarchist and Parenti is more of a traditional Socialist.
