I am not sure why people criticize the use, save for bio-chauvinist reasons, but from what I have seen from videos and read, robotic Drones are the future of warfare.
The media tends to note high civilian casualties, but I believe that is misleading. I have seen these drones hit individual human targets and moving cars from miles away at night. If they kill civilian targets it is not because they miss- it is due to bad intel or because such are targeted on purpose.
Likewise the Drone that was supposedly shot down recently, I don't believe it. Those drones are impossible to shoot down even with advanced US rocket launchers. There is almost no way a primitive Middle Eastern launcher could hit one. The size, speed and height at which they soar makes it like trying to shoot down a missiles with another missile.
Most likely, there was a mechanical malfunction due to poor maintenance. The claim that the Drone was shot down by "the enemy" is a cover-up.
And now they are making smaller aerial drones with one-shot guns. This will only grow. Soon Nation-States will be able to field hundreds of these, far more sophisticated, and almost impossible for humans to fight. This gives organized armies a huge advantage over civilian. Even if you shoot 1 down, it has far less morale effect then killing a soldier.
Hopefully Workers' States like the Peoples Republic or the Vietnamese government realize this.
It seems Marx's rule of Constant capital displacing Variable holds true even in war.
