Check out his shirt at 3.00, when he leans to the side and goes "eeeeeeeeeeh"

Just saw this on MTV today, and was as shocked as hell!

Remember Jay-z's Run This Town Video?

Prince or no, Lil Wayne is a wonder. He is fantastically gifted, fabulously inventive, a veritable Shakespeare who comes to us from a New Orleans that no longer exists dripping in tats and attitude.

Is he talking about the same Lil Wayne that I hear on the radio?

Jimmie Higgins

I doubt that man has any political principles.Yeah, both high-fasion and trendy clothing designers like to throw in a little constructivism or agit-prop edge every now and then. If this shirt wasn't the video wardrobe person's decision, I think his decision went down like this...

Lil Wayne: Man, I need some street credit - I'm so popular but I need people to think I'm a lil rebellious. Hey, what do old white men hate?

Agent: Um, black folks?

Lil Wayne: True, but I already rock the blackness. What else?

Agent: Well the really are scared of communist...

Lil Wayne: That's it! Get me Cameron Diaz's number so she can tell me where to buy some communisty shit!

But seriously, I wouldn't be surpized if we start to see more communist and socialist stuff reflected in "rebelious" pop culture thanks to the crazy right-wingers fear mongering. Rock and Hip-hop as genres should feel a little threatened that the far-right is less concerned about them right now.

Communism is the new Nirvana/Sex Pistols/NWA:lol: ... parents will ask their kids: what are you listening to on those headphones? Is it one of those damn radical polemics again!

if this is the way it might be then i have to say, i approve to an extent. i mean, media is a GREAT vehicle for influence but who its coming from may be a problem. if the guy is actually a socialist then why from the little that i know, does he look bourgie(high fashion and all of that).

But Lil Wayne an actual communist? I highly doubt he could even coherently explain the term.

maybe this is a good thing for the movement, just think people might want to learn what communism is, and might be interested in it. but yet probably might turn into a fad that dies later, harming the movement.

piet11111

Because he is a rapper that makes millions of dollars and has no class interest in communism ?

Also rappers in video clips tend to have other people picking their clothes.

income doesn't determine class

FreeFocus
22nd March 2010, 21:47
Millionaires have no material interest in the overthrow of capitalism - they benefit greatly from it, as they have access to all the luxuries in the world. Income and class are closely related. The only people who have an interest in seeing capitalism overthrown are those who struggle day to day and those who seriously object to people being unable to fulfill their potential.

Anyway, fuck Lil Wayne, even if he was a communist. No respect for this guy considering there's real, meaningful hip-hop out there.

He did have plans, before makin' it as a rapper, to study political science. That fact alone makes me believe he may have a political stance that's serious, but i doubt it's radical.

SandiNeesta

I have seen quite a few interviews of him and he seems somewhat out of it most of the time. Most of his lyrics, videos, the name of his record company seem to glorify making money any means necessary (taking advantage of his poor and disadvantaged peers by selling them drugs)...so I find it a little hard to believe he would live such a consumer driven lifestyle and wear a label himself a communist for any other reason than irony or shock factor.

They sport the EZLN flag and a lot of anti-imperialist and anti-capitalist images.

Not exactly communist, but obviously very close and they obviously are sympathetic to communism.

For the most part I'd call them anarchists. Much like Noam Chomsky.

Sorry but Rancid are capitalists, belive me.. this is a band who once said they'd alway remain inderpendent shortly before selling out their intrests to a major and all becoming millionares...and the clash had no real direction but slogans, although mick jones is and was a proper socialist. Don't like MSP but at least their politics were solid.

Anyways has little wayne actually discussed political topics in any of his lyrics?

Lil Wayne is not a gangsta rapper. Gangsta rap is actually real (ex: NWA, Mobb Deep, etc), Lil Wayne is a joke.

I suppose we should just ignore the webcam video where he spews the freestyle lyrics "I pledge allegiance to the flag, Michael Jackson is a fag". Also, from his song Go DJ, he says
"You homo niggas getting AIDS in the ass". I don't see how we can excuse bigotry like that.

He is NOT a communist just because he wears a shirt saying it. In his words "I don't have to make sense, I make money".

I think you'll all a bit harsh on Weezy here.

I read bcbm's article, seemed like some intresting stuff. I think he might actually be some sort of communist...or at least a leftist in the sense that "micheal moore" is, or the rest of us were when we were 16 i.e. varying between daydreams of reforimist assholes like Obama being actual progressives, and the ability of Marxist/leftist writings to ring true with us.

At any rate, i've reconsidered by position on all this teabagger bullshit - they're putting communism back on the menu, and thats fantastic.

Backpackers are not the classic rappers (like PE and Run DMC) they are more like the rap equivalent of indie rock.

They do have some good songs IMO.

Have you guys listened to the tracks on carter III that weren't singles? There is definitely some crude consciousness on there, lil wayne is from new orleans and he talks about Katrina and the way that it effected the poor and not the rich.

And to whoever is talking about lil wayne not being "gangster enough" (haha), do you know where he is right now? In fucking Ryker's Island.

Also, lol at hypocrisy, "lil wayne is a sexist, we can't support him", "yeah listen to public enemy". PE literally says "you gotta listen to Farakhan", no, no I fucking don't, cause that mother fucker is bat shit insane, and the NOI is a thousand times more sexist and bigoted than lil fucking wayne. You support PE, they supported NOI, they considered themselves allies with a number of fascist organizations, think about that.
