Netherlands is the latest addition in the line of allays of US regarding "war against drugs". It has some colonies in tiny islands near the coast of Venezuela, which are they now lending to US for military purpose.
Comrades, whatever be your view regarding Chavez and the Bolivarian revolution, at least stand beside Chavez and the people of Venezuela in this case.

This should definitely be examined further. A while ago, Chávez criticised the Netherlands for allowing American aircraft to use bases on the Antilles for both the "war on drugs" and for spying on Venezuela.

In the past, Dutch government politicians have tried to whip up fears of Chávez coming in to "steal our colonies". On the other hand, far-right politicians of the PVV believe that the Antilles are "a corrupt nest of criminals", and that "we should put a nice ribbon around them and give them to Chávez to deal with". They just don't want black Antilleans moving freely to the Netherlands because they "cause crime"...

A few years ago, a radio station made a fake "War of the Worlds"-style news broadcast about Venezuela invading the Antilles.

I think Venezuela's position is that the Antilles should be decolonised, but there's probably little chance of that happening.

This is a shot in the dark, but it's possible that the Netherlands and the US struck a deal regarding overall drug policy: the US would agree to not harass Holland over their internal drug laws and practices (as has been done to Morocco and other drug-tourism countries in the past) if the Netherlands agreed to become an ally in the imperialist "war on drugs". This sounds like a quid pro quo, and is perhaps especially important as European countries move more and more away from the imperialist efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan: could this be the "softer, more diplomatic" foreign-policy option offered by the Obama imperialists to the European capitalists?
