I ended up finding this article written back in 1994 where it talks about how they make the prisoners in this federal prison called UNICOR make the clothing for the army for about $1 something, & then the firm who would get the clothing would then sell it directly to the army for over $4. They used the prisoners to reek profit because of how cheap they knew it was going to be. The link to the article is below:

My initial question is if any of you have heard about this? And also, if you have, do you know if this is still going on?

The worst part is, it seems, they didn't even pay the prisoners for their work. It's common knowledge that the government takes advantage of cheap prison labor but I have a feeling that this sort of exploitation by private companies along with the government happens quite often as well.

Some of the figures in this article are pretty shocking:

They fucked the state and now the state fucked them, only on a larger and more manipulative scale. This thread might re-ignite the other thread we have on prison labour in a socialist state: http://www.revleft.com/vb/crime-stateless-societyi-t130377/index.html

It's beginning to get like one of those shitty Hollywood movies.

Oh, it says they get paid around 23 cents to a $1.15 a day, for each day they do this, but knowing the private prison systems, they don't get shit from the labor they're put through.

While I myself am for corrective labour (http://www.revleft.com/vb/crime-stateless-societyi-t130377/index.html?p=1693523) as part of the "aggravation von dem Klassenkampf along with the transition to socialist production," I think there should be a demand calling for the abolition of prison labour for the benefit of private parties.

Well doing labor as a prisoner that might help rebuild communities, schools, etc., I see nothing wrong with that either. But yeah, to do labor for private industries & not even get paid for the labor they did, how exactly can they be re-educated back into a communal society? So yeah, I'm with you.

Assuming a scenario where no private prisons exist (right  ), the persistent weakness in how I've phrased that potential demand (but I don't intend to include it in my stuffed programmatic commentary) is that the Army is not a "private party."

May not be considered a private party, but they have certain "rules" on who they want to be part of the Army, & it's no secret that there are secrets in the Army. I believe, no matter if it's considered private or not, either way, it operates like a private-based party.

Yes, as long as their prison/labour sentences are humane and they live in decent conditions and are not exploited.
