Gawker is currently obsessed (http://gawker.com/5488509/inside-the-low+paying-cheezburger-empire?skyline=true&s=i) with what it's like on the inside (http://gawker.com/5486025/is-the-lolcat-empire-built-on-exploited-humans) of Ben Huh's Cheezburger Empire. It turns out, you can make more as a starting Dick's employee than as a Cheezburger employee; Huh pays many of his employees minimum wage. And, according to his own blog, he's proud of it (http://www.benhuh.com/2010/02/02/are-you-what-you-earn-compensation-and-wages-advice-from-a-ceo/). Some of the first-person anonymous employee testimonies are really depressing:
He is shrewd and cheap and I recommend staying away from Cheezburger HQ if you value your sanity and pocket book... The co-workers at Cheezburger are fun, cool people, but Huh and his wife (who is the HR Manager), have a stifling presence in the office and aren't shy about letting you know whether or not you're in good or poor favor with them. I guess I shouldn't be surprised anymore by allegations that an internet mogul is an insufferable libertarian pull-yourself-up-by-your-own-bootstraps douchebag. But still: All this makes Failblog (http://failblog.org/) a hell of a lot less fun.
