My name is Michael and I'm from Watauga, Texas... Drowning in this petebog of Fascist-Imperialism we still call America. It brings back to me a lot of hope in the revolution, the fight for freedom, to see all these people from all over the world. We all may have different views and opinions but we all have one thing in common... There is something very wrong with this world and it needs to change. I don't particularly like the term 'left' because it carries the feeling of 'not right' in modern society, especialy since most people are right handed. People tend to think of it as right as in 'right and wrong' instead of 'right and left'. They tend to make this twisted connection based on what they're told. It's fear of something different. But people know what we're talking about when we say 'left' and it is through necessity that I use the term. I don't blame those that just 'obey the tv', but I do blame those who know better and do it anyway. I, personaly, am getting restless of the way things are, seeing all these 'left' minded people, doing a lot of reading on wikipedia about historical revolutionaries, and countless hours listening to Rage Against the Machine is only making it worse(for them), or better(for us).

he was a revolutionary, and though he didn't follow our beliefs, he deserves respect.

I am looking forward to a discussion on this. Gandhi's activities included denouncing violence against British imperialism but promoting violence by the British troops.

Such a person cannot be called a revolutionary.

Ghandi is an excellent example of non violent resistance.

He is the most frequently cited example of effective civil disobedience. It works! He proved it!

Granted, the British imperialists retaliated with aggression, but he probably prevented greater bloodshed by not organizing a war against a much better equipped foe.

How did he prove it works ? Just calling a country independent doesn't mean that it really is.

A war against an initially better equipped foe is what all revolutionaries aim at.

So called "Indian indepdenence" came because the British could not afford to keep hold of India after WW2, IIRC

Do you think that a violent revolution is the only type of effective revolution?

At the present circumstances, yes.

At any point, even if the revolution does not involve violence, the revolutionaries must have an armed force of their own so that the bourgeoisie steps down at least to save its own physical existence.
