Lets see what autonomous anti fascism is developing shall we?

In the Article "A Far Right Palava" 6.11.09 here;
http://www.schnews.org.uk/archive/news698.php (http://www.schnews.org.uk/archive/news698.php)
"all protesters are calling for continued mobilisations against the far-right, but autonomous from the UAF".

"Autonomous anti-fascists in Nottingham have produced the first edition of a newsletter" 15.2.12;
http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2010/02/446183.html (http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2010/02/446183.html)

04.03.2010 - The English Defence League (EDL) have made plans to march in Sheffield on 30th May. We call on autonomist anti-fascists to make a stand against them;

Autonomous Anti Fascism: Towards Praxis

The movement that is emerging has to be autonomous from controlling old left groups and their newer variants, and from the Labour movement/Searchlight. Our time has come:cool:

Hopefully that is the case.
Although by far the most important tool we have for fighting fascism is our politics, not our fists. We've got to be building grassroots working class organisations that should be rivalling EDL and empowering the working class to further our fight against capitalism. The growth of these racist and fascist groups is a symptom of the failure of anarchists and other radicals to build these kind of fighting organisations, and raise class consciousness - without which we are nothing.

The EDL are in Bolton on the 20th March I think. We should be there autonomously. But I do see that confrontational work as less important than building positive solidarity groups and the like to confront capitalism.

Autonomous doesn't just mean action, it is enabling political organisation as well and does not mean conservative political practice even if it is labelled 'anarchist'.

Boring social democratic organising has allowed capital to dominate debate for too long already.

I think I understand, What are the benefits of antifascism outside the UAF police pens at say an EDL demo.

What do the UAF police pens achieve?

By avoiding them, you can attempt to cause disruption to the EDL march and your presence shows the EDL that there are people who oppose them and will stand up to them directly, as opposed to sitting in a kettle shouting irrelevent chants (I actually heard a chant about smashing the BNP at an EDL demo from UAF :rolleyes:) and listening to people rave about how they're combatting fascism (and how you should probably join such-and-such party, while you're at it) - when clearly the EDL wouldn't be marching, the BNP would not be seeing such popular support if that were true.

Do people here feel that we have enough people to stand up and beat the EDL? Despite the football hooliganism in the EDL.

Well no, we need to build a working class movement that is seperate from UAF that will confront them on the streets. the problems we face atm with autonomous groups is that UAF will lure people away from action, and so we lack the numbers to effectively counter the EDL. If more committed anti-fascists were willing to break off from UAF and actualy take back the streets we would be in a better situation.

There is at least one group that is willing to actively counter fascists on the street. However the EDL are not out and out Fash, despite having elements of them in their pack. What would be good to see is more autonomous protestors protesting against them and hopefully outnumbering the UAF. The UAF are as pointless and uneffective as Searchlight.

I think it's also worth mentioning the Anti-Fascist Alliances who were successfully able to prevent the SDL from marching in both Glasgow (http://www.indymediascotland.org/node/17396) and Edinburgh (http://www.indymediascotland.org/node/18448).
