INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY - MARCH 7th & 8TH, 2010


All over the world, women and men will be raising up and celebrating this international holiday. They will be celebrating the millions and millions of women who have arise in the midst of patriarchy. They will be dancing in the streets for a world where women are treated as equals and not demonized, objectified, or treated as a baby factory. Across the world women and men together will commemorate a holiday that celebrates a future free of oppression. Celebrate here in Philly: Empowerment for liberation!

4-5:30 - Broad & Olney
(Join us for an outdoor installation depicting women and describing core issues facing the gender. Bring yourself, a symbol, fliers, and a friend and talk with others about why International Women’s Day is an important holiday. We’ll be at both locations. )

6:30-10pm- Friends Center – Co- Sponsored by third world coalition (AFSC)
Performances, readings, food, chatting, and discussing. From different disciplines and trends, join us for day of celebration and rage. Various performers and performances: poetry, jazz, hip hop, and more!

Continuing its acknowledgement of a 100 year-old worldwide celebration, the International Women's Day Philadelphia Coalition will host a full day of speakers, workshops, food, fun and cultural performances to honor women and girls throughout the Delaware Valley.
Founded in a mission that 'every issue is a woman's issue', women and girls of all races, sizes, classes, cultural, religious and ethnic backgrounds will be recognized and welcomed.

Our day of remembrance begins with a rally at City Hall followed by a march to event location site of the Family Planning Council (Safeguards), located at 260 South Broad Street.

The International Women's Day Philadelphia Coalition was declarated by City Council during last year's celebration with a reading of a resolution on March 6, 2008 officially establishing March 8th as International Women's Day in the City of Philadelphia.

Admission is free. Vendor tables are $25.00 and donations are greatly appreciated.

Was able to make it to the noon action at Love Park. Sadly wasn't as a large as the 2009 rally at city hall.
