I always come up with the wierdest things to post here don't I?

Basicly, I've been designing a little engineering project that would, if it worked, allow me to do very heavy lifting by myself. I don't want to go into it too much, in a kinda luddite way, because basicly, if it works, then because of the cost effectivness of the design, it has the potential to be abused by capitalists to make workers redundant. It's certainly not an original idea, but I'm trying to refine it to make it more accessable with cost. Maybe I've got an ego problem, lol, but I'd rather be safe than sorry when it comes to the livihoods of other workers. For these reasons, I will not be sharing the design openly on the internet, although I'll be happy to discuss them in person to comrades on the understanding that they take precautions that it doesnt fall into the hands of cappies.

Anyway, I've got to the point now where I'm feeling that the only way I can progress with the design is to build a prototype, as I think I need to learn by trial and error how best to place the hydralics. What I could really do with is any suggestions of something I could buy off the shelf to do this. I'm thinking of like educational toys, or teaching aids that a technology tutor might use.

Here's the spec of what I need:

- It needs to be able to run off electric, or manualy pumped power. Idealy through standard alkalie batteries, but 9V or even a car battery would be acceptable (although if it needed that much power it's probably too big tbh).

- It also needs to have at least three seperate hydraluic cylinders, pumps, lines, etc so I can create 3 individualy moving components.

- It needs to be cheap. Less than £20 second hand. Less than £10 would be better tbh.

- Toy sized. Me playing around with cylinders the size of my arm would be too much to put into a minature prototype and equaly, I don't have the manual dexterity to be playing around with anything that needs tweezers to set up. Cyndlinders that are between 3 and 10 inches long would be the sorta thing I'd be aiming for.

- A big bonus would be if it comes with some kind of way to mount the components to an adjustible frame, like mechano or something similar. I can always knock something together with bits of wood and tape if need be though.

This actually sounds very intresting :) (I'm studying mechanical engeneering next year) I'll add a question about this to the e-mails I need to be sending to uni departments :P

i seen a video of an exosqueletton developped by the us army that is doijng something similar. its light, and allow a person to lift incredible weight.

You can try to design an opensource or copyleft project, you would be able to receive help worldwide this way and you wouldnt have to worry about someone stealing your idea.

Ever considered the lego hydraulic stuff? You could proberly find that cheap somewhere although I'm not sure how well it works.

That's exactly the sort of thing I was thinking about actualy! I can't remember if I looked or not, but I'm assuming that I didnt and I'll look again :)
