For anybody who understands that politics are a little bit more than "conservatives vs. liberals" the problems in this study are self evident. However its at least fun to see a mainstream media source implying that conservatives have less than average intelligence.

Discuss.

This has been a known correlation for some time.

Yeah, I've supported this conclusion for years. However, the evidence is lacking "scientifically" speaking. My issue is that if intelligence is the ability to "acquire and apply knowledge correctly" then the correct solutions to religious questions and political questions will obviously be favored by the more intelligent.

The response, I think, is to either criticize the test or methodology. I don't think there is a problem with respect to the results of this case. There is another overly perpetuated view in psychology or what I'd consider pop psychology. This view is that political perspectives are the result of evolutionary feelings toward security, tradition, etc. I think this is blatantly false. A guy basically found correlations between values and politics and made a huge leap.

Apparently a recent research also claims that smokers have lower IQ:

So combining these two reports makes me somewhat IQ average

That's more or less true. And you're not applying the stats correctly. It makes a person selected for those two traits, smoking and non-religiosity, is more likely to be of average intelligence than one selected from either a smoking group or a religious group.

too bad most "liberals" and "atheists" are huge blubbering dicks/vaginaes that shove this in the face of religious people

If these people had ever seen liberals before, these results would simply cause them to doubt the validity of IQ as a measure of intelligence.

Wow, the analysis provided in that article of the study's results really reeks of utter bullshit on so many levels.

I have my doubts...but than again this is only in terms of averages. On average liberals and/or atheists have higher IQ relative to I guess conservatives/theists.

When it comes to real life, one must take this on a case to case basis. There are stupid liberals and there are clever people with nominally conservative like politics.

^if that was in response to me, it is not so much that I doubt the study; what I doubt is the analysis of the study in the article.

IMO the whole article was written very poorly. But yes, the analysis specifically was extremely unconvincing.
