I dunno about you comrades, but whenever someone tells me he/she is depressed, out-of-ideas, having a hard time coping with real life or simply feels in a rut - I always give them a single easy advice - go and read the communist manifesto

Yeah, it might sound like a joke, but I'm being serious. I'm shoving down the Commie manifesto down to everyone for all the reasons:
- deppresion? communist manifesto
- trouble in relationship? communist manifesto
- can't find a job? communist manifesto
- your granpa died? communist manifesto
- you have no friends? communist manifesto
- you think you are gay/straight? communist manifesto
- meaning of life? communist manifesto

I'm like a catholic missionary throwing Bibles all around, am I suffering from some deranged indoctrination or do you support my actions? :thumbup1:

But wait ! Before you answer !

i agree with bcbm.

anyway i suffer from anxiety and depression pretty bad, and communist theory helps a bit with it as it not only explains the alienation and all that but also gives hope and something to do with my life that is meaningful.

still, im sure there are better ways to help people than make them read the manifesto lol. how about giving them a hug or something

I agree with BCBM...that's the worst advice...they'll be turn off from Marxism and it won't make them feel better. I mean come on, did a political book ever made someone get out of depression? It sure haven't help me in that regard.

Although to be honest...I don't know much in particular on how to help...I usually just lend an ear and listen to their problems

I'm pretty sure he is joking.

I actually do feel a little better forgetting about my personal issues by reading some essays by Emma Goldman. :)

I have clinical depression, and I find communism makes me more depressed. To be fair, I think depression tends to make you interpret anything in a pessimistic way.

I don't have enough money to be independent. I am forced to work jobs I dislike. Thanks to Marx, I know realize I am alienated from my labor and exploited by my boss. It's pretty hard to get any sense of accomplishment from a minimum wage job as it is, in many cases, let alone when it comes in the contexts of trying to motivate you with a pat on the head. Not to mention the fact that you don't accomplish anything significant and more often than not help shill overpriced goods to people unable to afford anything else.

My Dad just doesn't get the wage slavery concept. The idea that working a minimum wage job is exploitation goes right over his head. Then again, he employs people and is rather politically conservative and tends to rationalize his own lifestyle. He's told me that I "need to change my outlook or I'll never be happy in a job."

I can't change my outlook because it's not an opinion. Wage exploitation and alienation are well demonstrated facts of life. So the task of finding meaning becomes doubly difficult in a modern context. Thankfully, I'm fortunate enough to have an education and the means to pursue potentially fulfilling careers. I still go insane waiting.

I compare life as a student to entering a room where monopoly is being played. The opponent, they say, was playing before. He has five hotels he worked hard for. Now I'm expected to start with zero and play with him. No thanks. After him, if someone comes, she may be forced to start with zero while I have five. Not likely, as I already started at a disadvantage. Furthermore, that makes it no more fair. Taking turns at the whip isn't equality as far as I'm concerned.

All of life seems to be designed at working towards something else at the expense of the present. When does the fun happen?

It's also 'bout time for you my comrade (and several others) to learn some basic healthy humor
Of course it was meant to be a joke, Marx dammit !

Now if I posted this under "learning" or "politics".. I'd be facing some serious charges.

I'm pretty sure he is joking.

And I'm pretty sure you're the only one who got the joke, so thanks for that

Anyway, why so stiff comrades? We deal with serious subjects all the time, no need to go overboard with it.

REAL MEDICAL WARNING:
If you are indeed suffering from any of the numerous conditions I mentioned - consult your doctor or find help elsewhere. Marx, Communist Manifesto and political books in general will not aid you in any way.
More so, your condition may even worsen.

Errr, don't you find that realising how the world works and seeing the utter shit people do to one another for the measly goal of getting higher profit margins, get you down?

Shoving the communist manifesto in their face is gunna make it worse, if people want a crutch, give em the bible or another piece of shit holy book to read. :tt2:

Drinking to cure depression doesn't have a very good track record for success.
