I have gotten good impressions of Harvey and wondered if I should read any of his books. Before I did that I wanted your opinion... So, what do you think of Harvey's work, and what, if anything, would you recommend to a "newbie" reader of anthropology, geography or however you classify it.

I took a look at Spaces of Hope and I liked the kind of constructive element of it.

David Harvey is the bomb. He's one of the clearest, most precise writers, Marxist or otherwise, that I have read. I'd recommend starting with The Condition of Postmodernity. It's his most popular book, and a breeze to read.

I haven't read any of his books, but I have started to read Capital with his online class and have enjoyed it so far. However, looking over the list of titles I would say that his book "The Limits to Capital" is probably his most imporatant work for communists since it is meant to be a study in Marxian economics, which is good since Marx's Capital is 3 volumes which are all extremely long and difficult to get through alone. He also has a new book called "A Companion to Marx's Capital" which is based off of his lectures on Capital vol. I.

David Harvey is certainly one of the best Marxist writers around nowadays. Get Limits to Capital, it's definately the most comprehensive synthesis of Marx and post-Marx writers on economic theory that I've ever read. Truly brilliant.

Harvey is amazing, especially his ideas on how to look at urban development in the era of neo-liberalism.

You must read "Limits to Capital", at all costs.

Sounds like people agree on that one. I will check it out.

Thanks :)

He just now came out with his newest book last month. http://davidharvey.org/2010/02/new-book-a-companion-to-marxs-capital/

It's a sort of book version of his online courses about Capital. I've gone through most of the courses but I have a feeling that this book would be quite helpful as well. I haven't read any of his other books, but I've heard that his book on NeoLiberalism is a good one.
