View Full Version : Control of the Economy?

May sound like a pretty noobish question, considering I've spent a reasonably long time on Revleft, too. But if you were to let the workers democratically control the economy, or give control to the state, just what exactly are they controlling and managing?

In short: The means of production, which is now in the hands of the small, medium and big business.
Actually everything.

I found a definition that says an economy is the system of production, distribution and consumption... so the distributive forces (or whatever they're called) would be roads and infrastructure, as well as retail stores, etc.? And the workers (or the state) would own and be in control of these, too?

The function of the state during revolution is merely to enforce by law the expropriation of the expropriators, that is, so that the proletariat may represent its interest as the general interest, and it ceases to exist as soon as this task ends, that is, as soon as the revolution ends. In socialist society, what would be democratically determined by workers and non-workers (that is, people who choose not to work for whatever reason, to become hermits, because of disability, or whatever else), would be what is produced (for example, what ought to be prioritized when it comes to solving poverty, what research into new technologies deserves the most labour and resources, etc), how it is to be produced (is a method too risky to society to be worth it? Perhaps if the harm were solely to the workers involved, they could make the decision), and general moral issues relating to production. There is also the issue of distribution, such as whether to use labour credits, what these should apply to if they are used, how they will function, whether they will be gradually reduced in significance, and what reaction would justify temporarily ceasing this reduction, etc. The more technical aspects, how much must be produced, and co-operation between various industries, could be determined by recallable delegates elected by industry.
