I just saw a documentary on tv earlier that claims in the UK, hate crime against the disabled is still not recognised by UK law on the same status as racist or homophobic crime.

Should leftists be doing more to address this issue?

The answer is resoundingly a yes, we should really have people who monitor disabled people who get constant abuse, giving those who give them shit a smack in the face, as well as teaching disabled people to use their available means to physically/mentally defend themselves as much as possible against these tools.

In the US, disabled people are more likely to be victimized by people. It's like they deliberately pick people who are, say, blind or deaf to steal from or assault.

I am opposed to hate laws in principle and practice. If people want to challenge me on that, I'd welcome it.

People with disabilities are much more vulnerible to basic crime than other people are and basic laws against theft and assault need to be applied. Too many folks with disabilities are generally screwed over within the exisiting system and by people who take advantage of their disability. Many crimes against people with disabilities are not reported because of fears of really nasty payback.
