I just thought I'd like to let everyone see the next book that I'm writing, that should get published in the next few months, & to see what you all think of the cover design:

That sounds very dramatic, kind of like one of those 'teenager's diaries' style books. Except rivaling Mt. Rushmore.

Anyway, it looks like a good way to scare away anybody who isn't a communist (Hey guys, look at Che and Castro! Also, you're my enemy! Oh, and here's a hammer and sickle, if you're not convinced already!), and doesn't sound like it contains much for someone who is. So yeah, I'm not sure who the target audience is, exactly.

It's meant for those that are communists, anarchists, etc., who understand our struggle. This isn't some book to help capitalists lean the other way, it's meant to represent revolutionary writing.

Fair enough, what do you have to offer them?

Fair enough, what do you have to offer them?

It's nothing really of an offer, but rather poems from the heart that speaks of the revolutionary struggle. To represent the very anger we all share against the capitalist/imperialist system.

The first two books that I ever got published represented my beliefs when I use to be a conspiracy theorist. I eventually left that detrimental lifestyle & started embracing environmentalism & a more communist radical outlook on things, so my third book represented radical environmentalism. But, since then, I've trained my mind further towards the communist ideology & I felt like it was time to embrace that through my writings. I'm practically done with it, I just need get it all set up.

The cover is way too busy and the title doesn't stand out enough. Don't worry about cramming as many pictures as you can onto the book jacket, just keep it simple.

a question standing apart from the content and all that, who (not a name but what kind of publisher) has published your previos book and this book and on what scale ?

and maybe, you could share an extract as this would give us an oportunity to better "judge" your writing, can't really say much by just seeing a cover and all that

createspace is helping publish it, and they are distributed globally throiugh amazon. But for this new one, I'm given the option to be able to make copies for book stores as well. Though it'll cost more, but more than likely I'll take it. And if you want a 'extract' of the book then you're free to read the material within my blogs here on RevLeft.

Also, like my last book, I'll probably give out a link on my myspace page to where you can download a free digital copy as well. I'm not making the books to reek profit off of, but to represent my beliefs & to distribute it globally.

I won't comment on your writing, but it's not at all clear that that's what the book is supposed to contain. If I looked at the cover, I would expect a lot of faces, if I read the back, it wouldn't be any more evident.

And that is of your opinion. I won't judge it, nor praise it, but I'll respect it. I've had lots of good word of my writings & the cover design that I did for it, while there's been complaints such as yours. So I'll take them in mind equally.

I like the cover design. My beef with it is that the text on the backside is too hard to read. It feels a little crowded, so perhaps strengthening the opacity of the text-background would help.

Yes, it is my opinion, it would just seem quite sensible that if the book is a poetry book (I would say that 'rap book' is quite possible more appropriate, but eh), this should be mentioned somewhere on the front or back.

It feels a little crowded, so perhaps strengthening the opacity of the text-background would help. The font probably also contributes to that. But then, I just dislike Lucida Handwriting in general, more or less.

I'll keep that in mind, & more than likely will probably change it to an extent.

Ahh, well when it gets published, on the online site it'll explain how it's a poetry book. And I've always come to like Lucida Handwriting. I guess that's just based on personal likings. Either way, thanks for the comments.

Alright then, though I'm not sure that would work in bookstores, unless this cover is only for the online version?

Most bookstores have specified sections, & the book would be placed in the Poetry section. Though, I get your point. I'll see what I can do.

Yeah, definitely just go for a simple, readable font for the back cover.

I have to agree on the cover-criticisms.
I like the Penguin Classics covers:

Many poetry books just put the word 'Poems' as a subtitle, either on the front of the book or on the title page, so all you really have to do is to put the word somewhere on the front cover, and you shouldve solved the problem.

Apart from that, many bookstores put their books online now as well, and not all of them has specified sections for their books, so adding poetry as a subtitle could help the potential customer realise that its actually a poetry book, which isnt really that obvious by looking at the cover or the title.

Thanks, I think I might just do that.

Well, to let you all know, my newest book, "Anger is a Gift" is now available for sale, which I'll provide a link. And I'll also provide a link to where you can download a free digital copy of it as well if you don't feel like purchasing it. But because I'm so excited about this new one, I've already started writing for my followup book, called "Anger is a Gift vol. II: The Third World". I've already got a back cover design done for it, which I'll provide below as well. Let me know what all of you think, Comrades:

I like that cover alot better. Have you ever considered submitting it to someone like AK Press or City Lights? Those are both functionally bookshops, and AK's more anarchist oriented, but they both also publish 'alternative' literature. It'd be worth a shot, in my mind, if for no better reason that if one of them decides to print it, I can only imagine the immense gratification in seeing it actually bound and printed. Nevermind if anyone actually buys it.

I just got done designing the cover design for the next coming book, or better known as the next volume to the Anger is a Gift series, "Anger is a Gift vol. 2: The Third World". The back cover was designed by me, & the front cover was helped designed by Sir Comradical. So I'd like to thank him for helping out in the next volume as well:
