My brother is reading the book 'The Road of Bones' by Anne Fine, for school, and it is quite agaist the USSR, and communism, so I was wondering how much of this book is actually based on the truth and was Russia actually like how it is in the book?
Cheers

Well, the labour camps were real, but one has to understand that, back then, this is what had to happen. Sure, most people today might look back & view this type of imprisonment as harsh, but it allowed those that went to jail to be able to work & do something for the community, while still serving time. The vast majority of those in the camps were actual prisoners, the idea of camps being used to imprison prisoners of war was created by people of the Hearst foundation, who later on got caught for lying & creating lies such as 'millions being killed by the Stalinist regime'. Yet, people of today still use this information, despite it already being shown as false, because it's an easier route to just bash & falsely accuse communist powers instead of trying to understand the truth.
