While developing your political beliefs, which was(or is) more commonly a consideration? With freedom obviously comes responsibility. For people who like the ideas and goals of leftism, there could still be worry of people exploiting the system, or not finding motivation without money. A similar belief is the idea that if there were no police, we would all kill each other. The same basic principle is echoed by those who shamelessly proclaim they would also kill people if they didn't have their faith in God.

The basic idea is that your fear of the police or God is the only thing keeping you from killing another human being, and that you would not want to work if you didn't directly benefit. Even if you're like me and you disagree with all of this, the fact that there are so many people who DO think like this could still be the elephant in the room. For me, it's ALWAYS in the room. Even with all the worry however, failure of leftist ideas don't scare me as much as successful capitalist ideas.

Me being an optimist(for my own sanity), for the most part, I think more about what good could come if we're successful. Some days though..

Even if the reactionary view of human nature is correct and we are all inherently murderous and evil (which I obviously don't agree with), I'd still think we should dismantle the state, because the havoc that one individual can cause is as nothing compared to the destruction that one individual at the head of a hierarchical state structure can inflict.
There is also the whole climate change issue: looking at the ecological results that may well come from capital's relentless pursuit of short-term profit above all else, I think it would be very very difficult for a communist society to make things any worse.

It is not true that, if there were no police, we would all kill each other. It is true that, if there were no police, some people would kill some other people, in instances that wouldn't occur in the presence of law enforcement.
