View Full Version : China v. Industrial Revolution

Over 50 million people in China leave rural areas in search of urban jobs every year. Sweatshops are set up that work people to death. Wages are barely enough to support families, but most live on bare minimum. Sound familiar? What happened in the Industrial Revolution in the west is now happening in china. During the Industrial Revolution, working conditions were horrid, hours were much too long, safety was not considered, exactly as it is now in sweatshops in China. This (in the west) eventually started a tide of socialists, communists, anarchists, trade unions, etc. When the working conditions improved, most people became happy (not realizing they were still wage-slaves, though, that is off the point.) Now, instead of severely exploiting us (I realize they still do, but on a smaller scale, much less than during the early industrial revolution), the westerners, America, and other countries, are focusing on China and developing countries for a large labour force that works cheaply, for long hours, etc. so they can extract as much profit as possible. This wonder I believe is called imperialism. Aren't the Chinese workers upset?! I am not very aware of events occuring in China, as the media is biased and of course would not show content that capitalists don't want us to see. Why is the so called "radicalization" of Chinese workers not occuring as it did in the 19th and 20th century? If this is occuring, can someone tell me specifically what the hell is happening?

I also had this question a while ago, just like in india where workers are being used like unhoman tools. I think it's because this time the ruling classes know how to react against the "communist threat", they know what to expect, whereas in the 19th and 20th century these ideas were pretty new and the capitalists didn't have all the propaganda ready to counter it all.

Plus China has non-stop put out propaganda convincing people that they live in a workers state and that this is as good as it gets.
Does anyone know of any real Marxist/Anarchist groups in China that are opposing the PRC right now?

Hopefully there will be a mass uprising and a Maoist counter-coup can occur and overthrow the neoliberals in the confusion.

I think the main issue is that a lot of people think that Maoism is what they actually have.. :(

I can't be sure, but that is the assumption I make based off of what I have seen from the Chinese media.

Do they even allow them to read Marxist literature? I wouldn't be surprised if it were banned now.

It might be, but if they want it they can quite easily get their hands on it. Well, maybe just the few in China that actually have internet.

That is very true. A similar thing happened in Russia under Stalin. They realized that they would be invaded if they did not close the gap between them and the west in 10 years. SO the solution for them was extreme exploitation. They had 15 hour work days, a low minimum wage, and state resistance to strikes. Not unlike what happened in Brittan during the Industrial Revolution.

Hmmm...I'm not sure. I think people are just too poor, too uneducated, work much too hard to actually look into what is causing the problems. Their main focus is: I must continue working to support my family and keep what little bit I have. Instead of, what is causing my pain and frustration? That's just my hypothesis, I could be wrong.
Not only is there non stop propaganda, as others have mentioned, many chinese citizens are much too poor to own a computer, much less, internet. They have T.V., but of course, media is regulated and altered. I mean, come on, they even fucking banned Avatar and Alice in the Wonderland.
So...does ANYONE actually know what the hell is happening...or at least point me in the right direction...? I hate just assuming things.
Another question, what can we, as leftists, do to help Chinese labourers? We aren't just going to sit on our asses and complain about it.

Excuse me, could you please shut the fuck up? I think you are the one that's trolling. Plus, look at what you posted:
