Are there any maps of Israeli checkpoints? Google Maps, gps/satnav or iPhone/Android apps or anything like that? It might be useful if people want to avoid them.

Doesn't a wall kinda totally prevent that?

Doesn't a wall kinda totally prevent that?According to Wikipedia "Most of the checkpoints in the West Bank are not located on the boundary between Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory, but rather throughout the West Bank."

According to Wikipedia "Most of the checkpoints in the West Bank are not located on the boundary between Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory, but rather throughout the West Bank."

This is absolutely correct. Unfortunately, the sheer number and points at which they are put prevent any consistent pattern of avoidance - even for emergency vehicles. The lack of comprehensive media infrastructure is a further hindrance to this end - some people simply wouldn't have access to the updated maps on a consistent basis.

I wouldnt be suprised if the Israeli military uses the same strategy as the British Army with thier checkpoints. A lot of them were tempory. They just used to block the roads with armoured vehicles, or even Jeeps and start shooting at anyone who was driving at them too fast. There are more permanent structures around for blocking roads that the engineers used to install on heavily used roads (where attacks would do most damage), but as a general rule, you can't predict where the roadblocks will be, except that they won't be put up too deep into "enemy territory" because of the risks of them getting surrounded.

Simply Put - You cant avoid the checkpoints. They are placed in such a pattern so to be unavoidable. The west bank and Gaza are under siege.
