A Mesage from the new Mod of "DIY"

Okay,

My name is Prairie Fire, and I am the new moderator of the "Mutual Aid and DIY" part of Revleft.

I've never been a mod before, I'm not 100% familiar with all the various functions that I have to perform, nor am I familiar with how to perform certain actions.

What some may percieve as gross negligance of my mod duties is just me in the dark about how to perform these duties.

Everyone be cool, and stop snitching. I'm still in the process of figuring this out.

More I figured that since you were appointed a mod of the forum, you would have lots to say on the subject and was disappointing when I didn't hear anything. I think this forum is great and has lots of unrealized potential.

Well, to be honest, no I have very little to say on this subject.

Considering my complete disdain for lifestylism, I am the wrong fit for this part of the board.

In contrast to that, around the same time that I was given a position as mod of Mutual aid/DIY, there was also an opening for a mod of "Womyn's Struggles", which has been assigned to Apikoros. I would have prefered that position.

But, whatever. I'll see what I can do here, but keep in mind that I have almost no enthusiasm what-so-ever for the subject matter here. It is my view that if some comrades spent more time organizing, and less time knitting and growing vegetables, we would have larger and more solid organizational forms to proceed in our work with.

i thought mods were supposed to be "forum leaders" and be involved in the particular forum. why would you want to mod a forum you not only have no interest in but actually think is detrimental?

i don't think knitting and gardening are mutually exclusive with organizing. organize a knitting circle with some co-workers and you've opened up another space to organize with them. start a garden with your neighbors or people in your apartment building- same thing.

There are many things which distract comrades from organizing, most of which are far less healthy and/or productive and/or meaningful than crafts and gardening. If this website were any indication, video games, anime/cartoons and general internet usage would top that list.

Why is it the mod is running something they don't like. Wouldn't a better fit be someone who actually cares about it and haslots to contribute? I'm very confused on why this would happen at all.

This is exactly why I am starting to believe we're fucked. People either seem to be practically inclined hippies who however don't care shit about revolution or radical theorie, or simply bastards who don't care about 'lifestylism' and instead spend their time and money on tons of corporate fastfood, expensive clothing, cigarettes and gadgets. Not saying you're one of them, lady pol pot, but these seem to be about the only people on the left I meet.
For fucks sake, I've seen revolutionairies organizing fucking auction markets.
We should know our theory. But, eventhough your disdain for it, we should also walk the walk.

Not really, Gwydion is pretty spot on here. I find it silly to complain how tough your life is, how hard it is to pay for everything, how much your health sucks while you're going out and blowing money gambling or getting wasted/smoking. Sure, capitalism sucks, but it's no excuse to throw personal responsibility out the window.

who is complaining? life can be tough and i think part of diy should be practical projects to free up more money to spend on whatever we want, from cigarettes to prisoner support, instead of just survival.

Just remember if you buy something you're condoning the labor practices in which it was made, etc. I myself will not claim purity as I have a tendency to "not give a fuck" about anything most of the time. I'll be the first to point out that I'm vain as fuck and buy lots of make up and clothes, (food has less a priority for me, beauty over health)
