View Full Version : Fun with the benefits office
The Ungovernable Farce

So, I had to go down to discuss my council tax benefit today. The guy I had an appointment with had a really posh voice, but seemed nice enough. Somehow we got round to talking about politics, and he asked me if I was in any political party and what my views were, and I didn't particularly feel like getting into the intricacies of pro-organisation but non-platformist anarcho-communism, so I just said "far left". He seemed visibly shocked by this, so (in reference to the fact that I was sat in a benefits office) I admitted that it didn't seem to have done wonders for my employment prospects. He agreed, and advised me that I should join the Conservative Party if I wanted to go places. Then he got on to asking me about my employment history (in a professional capacity this time), so I mentioned how the last job I had was processing votes at the European election. His response was "what? Reds counting the votes?" Funtimes.

remember, it's not who votes, or who they vote for, but who counts the votes.

What's a 'council tax benefit'?

Council tax is a compulsory set rate for everyone, unless you're on the breadline with no income. If that's the case, and you can prove it to the council, then you don't have to pay anything. In this case, the benefit isn't actually you getting money, it's you not being made to pay money.
