Islam & Gender...

This can be too general(&boring) topic since there are loads of people out there tell us how "true" Islam treats women etc. etc. but the facts on the ground are mostly contradicts that holy treatments. Recently I was stuck by this Muslim woman's statement in a forum discussion somewhere else...:blink:


Allaah created man in such a character, that he desires more than one woman, it is their nature, and for man not woman Allaah allowed to marry upto 4 wifes cuz He knows His creation best, and in most places in Qur'an its about female companions which is created specially for man in Jannah, and Allah created woman in such a nature that one male is more than enough for her, ask any woman if she will desire more than one husband at a time, i am sure no, cuz its their nature.

This sounds upsetting to me, but that's the Islamic cultural mentality towards women that I was grown up to accept as normal. Honestly, is there anyone who think Islam or any religion that treats women fairly? or Are they oppressed by primitive patriarchal mentality? Should they be emancipated? or Are women really creatures "created especially for man"? Anyway, what's the stance of Socialist/Communist/Anarchist et al. on Islamic treatment of women?

As a anheist, I think religious laws are too old to match with today's cultural norms. There are too many verses in Quran where man's superiority was mentioned. For example, witnessing of women in a court, sharing inheritance, clothing of a women outside, how women should talk with men, how they should accept superiority of men because it is the will of allah...etc
