Oh and the game shows, mustn't forget the game shows.

I dunno British shit TV grinds my gears more than American shit TV, probably due to my own country's shit TV closely emulating British shit TV's style.

Hmph! Lucky you. Finnish television is so horrible I didn't even bother to get myself a TV once I moved on my own. There are exactly two channels (the state owned ones) capable of producing quality programs, and even those do it a bit randomly.

Good for what, thats the question.

No i will moan about the 'show'[sic] because its this sort of X-factor/American Idol banal reality shit that is degrading the collective IQ of the working class.

I think even Davina McCall summed it up herself when she joked ''this year theres only one question on everyones minds, was Blair right to take us to war... ...no, only joking, lets not ask that question!''

Youre quite right, let us all sleep in a cardboard box full of straw and hibernate like a tortoise.

Nope, i believe you'll find this monstrosity has already lurched its way onto the air for its final bow.

Davina has already performed her pièce de résistance by participating as a cameo housemate.

It says a lot that you're equating not watching TV with something primative or isolationist. Sorry if my not watching television makes me a tortoise.

Television and radio, for the most part lets me know whats happening in the world at the point of demand. Its also the main port of access of information for the blind and illiterate.

Ive said it before, its not that the televisions the problem but the shitheads who control the airwaves.

The hour a day that Big Brother is on hardly makes a big difference. Its just an entertaining program that is on for an hour a day in January and again in June to August.

I do hate Davina though, she is not funny at all.

I missed the point at which it was decided someone or other was able to speak on behalf of the 'collective IQ of the working class', I also missed the point at which anyone gave them a right to tell others what they can and cannot watch on tv.

Meh, sure they are shitty, so is most of what is on tv, doesn't mean I didn't enjoy watching dane fake a nightmare or steven doing his preaching. It's entertaining.

To me though, BB is something other than entertainment when people en masse have the energy to stay static for half an hour or more, gaping open mouthed at a group of people sitting on a couch. Its subliminal brainwashing if anything. Don't you find anything remotely sinister about the way that large sections of the working class have been conditioned to indulge this shit with almost religious gusto?

Ok if you want to discuss this properly yes there are issues surrounding big brother, most notably that it is symptomatic of the decline in community, where many people feel more connected to those living their lives in a confined house on a television than their own lives and the lives of others around them. However that being said you can take pretty much every show on tv and there are issues with it, mostly through the propogation of societal norms such as masculinity & femininity. However if you take part of a revolutionary strategy going around telling people to stop watching tv because it has made them stupid you descend into puritan, elitist leftism and might as well be, as I said, forcing people collective exercise or getting them to sing songs round campfires. The problems inherent in the way media functions will die when they have nothing to build upon, so yeah if you want to go and start building better community relations its a good thing (there is an interesting thread developing in strategy section here about gardens related to this) but mostly all I see is snobbish attitudes like 'look at these plebs with their lowbrow tv, they've never heard of althusser...'
