Anyone here listen to them? I just discovered them myself. Very anti war, anti capitalist and LGBT rights. :thumbup1:

That's a nice way of saying they're complete garbage that is geared toward blindly angry white trash.

That's stereotyping, which is just as bad as racism. That's just like saying country music is geared towards racist rednecks.

You really belittle how bad racism is when you equate it to "stereotyping". Especially stereotyping in music. They are not remotely equal.
Also, i'd have to disagree. Modern country music is definitely geared towards reactionary boneheads. I'm not saying that everyone who listens to it is like that but that's the kind of people they are trying to market to. Just listen to the lyrics for a minute if you can stand it.
I think it's ironic that a leftist would defend something like a corporate major label bastardization of art as music but maybe i'm just an idealist.

I don't feel it's belittling anything, it's un-belittling how 'not so bad' stereotyping is. In school I was stereotyped as 'the white kid that tries to act black.' Stereotyping IS just as bad.

Please think about what you are saying. You're comparing someone calling you out on a lifestyle you chose to buy into to someone basing judgment on the color of someone's skin which is a natural occurrence that they cannot help. Get over your teen angst.

Yeah, I like a few of their songs and have yet to look into them further to see if there's anything good I missed. Although, I'm not really into the whole Power Metal style. Good lyrics, though.

Are you sure you aren't thinking of Opeth? Even then, they're not power metal...

Are you sure you aren't thinking of Opeth? Even then, they're not power metal... Okay, I admit they definitely have some Nu Metal style in their performance. However, I have read from countless accounts that they, as least, started as a Power Metal band. They may have strayed from that, since they began, but I think they certainly see themselves as a Power Metal band.

Oh, and I think Opeth is Death Metal...? Maybe Black Metal. Not sure. In any event, their talent level is a little low, IMO.

Uh.... what??? Blind Guardian, Nightwish, Iced Earth, etc are power metal. There are NONE of those influences in Otep. Where does rapping and heavily downtuned breakdown riffs appear in power metal??

They're more prog-melodic death. Talent level low? Uh.... no. They're a bit boring, but they're definitely very talented.

I don't really think they have that Power Metal edge anymore but I know that's what they are going for.

'its the rich mans war where the poor just die' i love otep. i dont see anyone saying anything bad about Rage against the machine, and they're on a major corporate label. i dont understand how this is pro-corporate. have you even read the lyrics? its not how you heard it, its the messege they're trying to get out.

Otep is playing at Milwaukee's three day long pridefest.
Although, aparently Joan Rivers is coming to Milwaukee's Pridefest too.
But I'm looking forward to Amanda Lepore as well as Jeffree Star.
And I liked it and I'm not white nor a 16 year old.
