Why were they both banned? They both seemed like fairly reasonable chaps. Although Holden was a bit grumpy/cynical recently.

Edited - I've reopened it, but I don't want any flames in this thread or I'll close it again.

they wanted to see how far they could push, where the borders where, and they found out. actions have consequences, severe actions have severe consequences, enough said.

the good sides and controbutions of holden will be missed (i'm not sure bob had any, but if he did, those will be missed as well).

Basically, the CC decided that a certain member, Comrademan, was a Zionist troll and should be banned. The Admins overturned the decision, there was a row and the Admins voted amongst themselves to close down the CC. Days later, the Admin reinstated among their ranks, Miles, a bitter former admin who, before he split, condemned practically every member of the CC as scum. This intensified the ill-feeling and we're all now paying the consequences of that.

That's my take on the background to these bannings.

it was explained in the admin actions thread in the members forum why they where banned:

What an interesting turn of events. I didn't get on especially well with either of these members, but its clear that the banning is about personal dislike and the given reasons are either just flimsly excuses or if theyre true are a result of intensified personal antagonism..

RevLeft won't last long imo. At least, not in any worthwhile form.

I'm still here, nice to know how you feel though.

As for Bob, he will be missed as his theoretical contributions to the forum alongside his activism were a true asset and I seriously regard this as a deterioration to the forum.

This comes on a harsh backdrop of an admin team which are becoming increasingly paranoid and inward-looking, arguably wishing to save themselves rather than the forum. Levels of hysteria were obviously reached when a simple four-letter word was auto-changed to asterisks in an attempt to cover-up a member's identity, which I don't really buy to be honest (it also begs the question of why this in particular was asterisked when words of prejudiced language have been banned in the past and yet can be typed clear as day). You would think that if there was a true security risk then the user in question would at least temporarily leave the forum, or at least change their signature, but oh well.

The point is also that these members were banned by a simple one-line mention in a closed admin actions forum, and any questioning was met with closed threads. I am aware that the current admin team do not wish any transparency or accountability in the slightest, and we've seen this through their posts and also the way that forum 'changes' have been not only hush-hushed, but so far failed to be implemented. I disagree that this is all about ComradeMan, and that the bannings were a result of ComradeMan and so-called 'threats' which nobody has seen themselves - ComradeMan has social causes. The cause is that of an easy rationale to dump people who are not bending over backwards to the will of the team, who are becoming immersed in paranoia and hysteria.

It is a shame that these were the next users to be purged, and raises risks to all critics of the current administration that they will be next. The deterioration of the forum is what regular users, CC members, and former mods pay for questioning. No surprises that an old admin who has left and come back and left and come back and left and come back has been brought in as an attempt to steady the ship, as well as numerous apparachicks which the clique term to be 'faithful'.

Its a damn shame that personal prejudices and egos are coming before that of a decent leftist forum. Or, what once was a decent leftist forum.

There is no proof of anything they supposedly did, so that makes all the explanations kind of pointless. We'll just have to trust the people who banned them after 2-year personal grudges, now that they don't have to justify themselves to anyone. The new precedent is that you can be banned for anything without proof. Next time, it could be you who's banned for "death threats". How awesome is that?
