Study all the classics, especially modernist avant-garde music, and try to find out what's left to do in terms of technique and style.
edit: becoming proficient in at least one instrument (probably piano) would also be helpful

You cant make "good music" because no matter how "good" it is some people will always think its "shit".
Just make music that makes you happy. Its much more fun that way.

Theres no better way to say it ;)
In my own experience, people are especially attracted to an artist's music when they arent afraid to experiment and do something original or have an ambitious sound, or at least build upon something (like a genre or whatever). Also, people like whatever sounds similar to something they already like, which is how a "genre" comes about

As far as I know there isn't a formula you can use to produce good music. Like anything in life, some people are naturally more gifted at it than others. What I would suggest though is becoming acquainted with the major and minor keys and learning of common chord progressions and, in general, just learning some basic music theory. This will make things a great deal easier.

If yr asking that question you're already in the wrong direction. Just go out and make good music.

How do you make good music?
Same way you get to Carnegie Hall. ;)
Just learn about music theory and different styles of music. Actually playing an instrument helps too. Piano is wasy to pick up and can help you understand music, but it is very hard to master. Just do whatever you want and have fun with it.

Pick up inturment that nobody else plays (For me it was 6 string bass and bagpipes) and start playing in either a punk, heavy metal, or zydeko band.

Yup. That's the basic starting point of all music theory.
Tonic (I) - Subdominant (IV) - Dominant (V) - Tonic (I)
or, in minor, it would be i, iv, V, i
Listen to almost any piece of tonal music, and you will see this basic structure. Your tonic chord gives a sense of stability, while your subdominant and dominant chords, when put in context, will 'feel' like they want to resolve to V and I respectively.
This contrast between stability and tension is what gives music a lot of its character
Listen to 'Blitzkrieg Bop', then listen to the 'Ode to Joy' from Beethoven's 9th, listening closely for the V - I cadence and you'll see what I mean.
