i don't know alot about them but here's what i wrote when i had to write a short short report about what shocked me when i was at their site:

The Shining Path - http://www.csrp.org/

This is the communist party of Peru. I have been studied the cold war and socialism recently, and although I knew there was a communist part of Peru, I did not know its alias was “The Shining Path”. I have a feeling there are maoist, since when I was reading a few books of Chairman Mao’s selected writings, they had many quotes by the Peru communist party’s leader. (inside the cover of a book of his selected writings, it says this “Maoism, embodying itself within the peoples of the world, is marching unstoppably to command the new great wave of the world proletarian revolution. “ Chairman Gonzalo, Communist Party of Peru ).
-I didn’t know that America takes an interest to suppress the party’s fighting. I am not surprised there is a communist party in Peru, since from my studies of that country I came to the conclusion that it is one of the poorest places in all of South America.
-They seem pretty powerful in Peru. I say this because of my study of the Chinese revolution, where the communists were constantly being attacked and could not do any political work at work since their primary goal at the time was survival. After they won battles and felt secure, then the central committee started to work and decide the political directions of the party. They seem as they are feeling secure and have enough support to not do political activity as well as military.
-I knew they liked Mao, but they seem to follow almost exclusively his tactics on policies and also war.
-I didn’t know the fight for communism was still on, I thought since the collapse of the soviet union and the change in China’s economic policies, that many countries all over the world gave up on communism. I didn’t know, the battle was still on. (although Colombia has a communist party that is fighting, I have read they sell drugs to finance themselves, so I didn’t see them as a real party, instead more of a gang).
-I never knew they supported Mumia Abu-Jamal and he supported them

its pretty shitty, but i hope it helps a bit.

From what I've heard, they are terrorist. The don't target government buildings or that sort alone, they routinely kill mass numbers of civilians. They are maoist, and base their premise on "Gonzalo Thought". The Shining Path is the more militant part of the Communist Party of Peru.

There is a book on Sendero Luminoso already that i started reading years ago. They were a pretty evil bunch at the end of their reign just before theri leader, Abimael Guzman , was arrested.
Main area of strength is from the region of ayacucho,i think, having been formed in the university there with Guzman their 'well-red' professor.
I read on a news website that this latest spate of attacks are more aimed towards gov. rather than innocent civilians, and that they have gone back to buying supplies from locals rather than stealing it.
Like every other well-intentioned group, they lost track of their Reasons for being and Why, and became as mad and bad as those they were fighting.
Guzman may have his prison term reviewed because the new gov thinks the original military court system may have been illegal, and they think there are cells out there waiting to reactivate...Scary thought...

Thanks for filling me in..

You said their leaders name is Abimael Guzman?? Holy crap... I know a peruvian guy that said that her tio (uncle) is Abimael Guzman.. And she isnt allowed entry to Peru. She came to sweden as a two year old and misses her country. She wants to go but are on a list of unwanted persons.. Her father is peruvian and her mother is russian.. I didnt know it was him...

My wifes parents are from ayacucho area, so that explains alot. Its sad when a revolutionary movement from the left kills civilians on purpose and steal from them.. That is no way to make a revolution. Che wouldve been pissed off.

Yes, Peru is a really poor country, but of poor countries I only have experience from two other poor countries, Zimbabwe and Mocambique.. If I compare the three countries as I felt and saw, I would put zimbabwe on richest of them with peru as a second and mocambique lowest, but peru closer to mocambique than zimbabwe.. But now the situation is different.. Was four years since I was in africa and I was in peru last year.. Lima is really dangerous for the people with lots of crimes, false cops exists and "pirańas" that is young criminals working in flocks of 5-15 persons that attacks you in broad daylight and nobody dares to interfere. They usually dont kill persons if they dont resist, but it happens..

they are bastards!! they kill innocent people in the name of the revolution and communism!!....Their leader Abimal Guzman or something like that has already been captured..

there was this program on the discovery channel(Yeah..i watch the discovery channel when i get bored!;)) that showed that the shining path first tried to help the poor farmers but when the farmers didn't want to join their group the shining path started killing them and making them scared...

thats what I know about them...maybe its not completley corrrect though

I was talking to an old peruvian man yesterday and it seems like he is a walking well of knowledge..

He told me that the Sendero Luminoso just are a pack of no good bandits and said that they dont really are anything like communists like they say themselves.

He said even that there are lots of senderistas here in norway, sweden, germany, britain and other countries, and they are here on asylum and theyve got it mostly because the governments dont or didnt know what sendero luminoso was or is. These people send lots of money to the sendero luminoso since they got jobs here. But the only thing that sendero does over there is killing and robbing for their own winning, they arent helping the situation in peru. The peruvians need a lot of actions, building schools and giving medical aid to all those in the poor provinces.
My wife and I arent rich but we are thinking about going to one of the provinces and see if we can do anything to better the lives of some less fortunate...

rise up: you are welcome:D

mikeyboy: though not all programs are trash, the guys on the news usually dont know much, they are just happy to read their latest stuff and earn their money.

lostsoul: Well success, it depends how you define it.. Im fighting a war in the protestwarrior site and Im having a hard time trying to get those cappies listen to reason.. The day all the cappies are convinced that they are wrong, then I will claim total success.. But for now I live a pretty happy life, having a wonderful wife, nice relatives and good friends.. My next goal is to save up enough money to travel to peru with my wife in December and stay for a couple of months. We are also planning to go to the ayacucho zone in peru and see if we can make some people happy by doing something for the villages that her mother and father comes from.. :D
