I have been given this idea in an argument that it is more likely for the capitalist world to destroy itself through wars with nuclear weapons, other weapons of mass destruction, or other means than for revolution to take place.
What is your opinion? Do you think that we will destroy ourselves before revolution can even take place?

No, we won't destroy ourselves.
We may beat each other hard, but in the end, no one can live with the feeling of having destroyed humanity, except for a few fanatic religious perhaps, that think by destroying man, everything is solved and saved.
Even the most greedy capitalist wouldn't cope with the fact that he destroyed humanity, so no.

Is it possible? Yes. Is it likely? Well, let's take nuclear war. If the US decides to attack Russia, Russia will shoot back. But why would either of these countries attack say Angola? Or South Africa? Or Argentina? The question is if the world would really end, how big this nuclear war would be, and what would happen after it. Also, the capitalists do not have the control of such mass destruction devices yet, but the military do, and they both do not want (naturally) capitalism to die.
Most likely they would invent some new idiotic idea for people to buy so that "we all can survive".

I don't think we will destroy anything except capitalism.

Well by we I really meant people as a whole, but one thing about what you said is that even if they don't nuke Angola the supposed effects of nuclear war (blocking out the sun, fallout, nuclear winter, etc) would supposedly effect the entire world.

I'm more scared about climate change than I am of a nuclear war, tbqh.

I'm mostly concerned about peak oil as I think that could bring a world war, maybe even a nuclear war.

Well, it could happen, it depends on what kinds of atomic weapons that are used. But again, such conflict is not likely to happen as capitalists want to be alive with their power, since much of the global economy would be greatly disturbed by any nuclear bombings.

That, too.
