Pay attention to 2:16 I'm almost sure it was edited to make the Socialist look bad. This "Socialist" seems like a reformist to me anyway.

Yeah, that guy was from the DSA who really don't need much help looking bad. They're the "socialists" who work within the Democratic Party. What this means in practice is they are ignored by the Democrats while they beg their supporters (who are generally well left of the Dems) to pull the blue lever every few years.

I once ran into a couple DSA guys at a demonstration. It was shortly after Bernie Sanders was elected to the Senate. They told me Sanders would be speaking at their national conference, and that it was the first time a sitting Senator had addressed them. I said, "Whoa! You guys have been supporting the democrats since the 1970s, and they've never once sent a Senator around to thank you?"

Basically, ther're politically ineffective glutons for punishment, i.e. perfect people to represent the "left" on Glenn Beck.

As to the editing, clearly the piece is heavily edited. As a general rule, during a TV interveiw, every time one person is talking and the camera cuts to the listener listening, there has been an edit. They show you the person who's not talking during the edit so it looks smooth. From what I see on this video, they were mostly editing while the guy was stammering, and he was stammering a lot. If you take a look, mostly when they cut to Glenn Beck, the guy is going "er . . . er . . . er." In all probablity, these filled pauses were originally longer, and were cut down by the editor. I can't see any problem with it, cutting down on those filled pauses makes you sound better, not worse. If he sounded bad, its probably got more to do with him being from the DSA than Glenn Beck's editing.

Glenn: (some bullshit about being forced to give up m&ms)

DSA: Well, that's one way to democratize...

Or it went something like that.

There is an old COINTEPLRO memo from the 1950's congratulating some TV station on how they made some Communists look terrible in an interview by using uncomfortable chairs, unpleasant lighting, misleading questions etc; the memo recommended these techniques be developed and proliferated. Too lazy to find the link.

Didn't Beck change his mind, admitted he was "wrong" about the "Road to Socialism," and changed it to "Fascism?"

Finally watched the video, and yes, he really screwed up. Should have clearly replied that socialism is about democratic control of resources and means of production, not of personal possessions! Should have said the bailout went to the wrong people instead of we didn't give them enough.

"I share them, and you know why? Because I choose to share them, not because someone tells me to share them"

Apparently Socialism is the grown-up version of bringing enough gum for the rest of the class.
