I don't really think Matisyahu is Zionist...but then again, I've only heard 1 or 2 songs from him. Still...

He's a fuckin zionist. He was on New zealand music tv and walked out of the interview.
The interviewer criticised the invasion of lebanon (2) and matisyahu freaked out and startin ranting about the israeli soldiers 'not eating fruit loops and taking bong hits'.
Apparently the israelis were on some serious and necessary business.

he is zionist, very very zionist.
wich is wierd because by far not all orthodox jews are.
he is also completly paranoid and racist, when he was playing the venue i work he was scared of the arab people working there and while the venue was still closed to the public he wanted security to escort him from the restaurant to the dressingrooms.

I have a question about Zion/Zionism, if someone says 'Zion' referring to heaven, does that make him a Zionist?

Why would your respect for his music drop? For him as a person maybe, but how does being a Zionist affect how you think about his music? Wagner was a anti-semitic dickwad but he still made alright opera.

No, of course not.

Wagner was a anti-semitic dickwad but he still made alright opera.No. I dont like to climax to a soundscape of militarist hordes, kinda ruins it for me
but how does being a Zionist affect how you think about his music? Maybe because now i can put some of his lyrics in context like "Dispatch the Troops" and "Late Night in Zion"... You can't seperate socio-political/religeous themed music from its lyrics, unless you wanna be a total nihilist lifestylist. Its like being obsessed with nazi parafernalia and uniforms and then wonder why people relate you to nazism.

Music is music, not everyone has to have an abject purpose or be subordinated to the 'movement'. If you want to only listen to 'revolutionary music' fine but I can't really be fucked to only have a cd rack full of ratm and sub par oi punk.

Hating the sound of Matisyahu's music because you disagree with his messages is like listening to any leftist shit band just because you like their message.
Maybe I can make some cash off that...
I am starting a solo band, I will play the drums, sitar, cello, piano, and a highly distorted guitar while also singing, we will be called "Communism Is Good"
Saying that liking Matisyahu is like wearing and loving Nazi shit is like saying that calling someone 'honkey' is equal to calling someone 'nigger' in offensiveness (I will admit that this is a bit exaggerated, but I would say that Israel is definitely the lesser evil of Nazi Germany and Israel, not to say that Israel isn't one of the most violent countries in the modern world)
I used to listen to Matisyahu every-damn-day, thankfully I've found better Reggae. I like Matisyahu, but yeah, there is also definitely some way sweeter reggae out there, the newer and more popular within US culture are always a good way to get into the music though. I would recommend Ziggy Marley's Welcome To Jamaica if you want to hear a bunch of fucking sweet musicians, Gregory Isaacs is my favorite personally.

There is a difference between good a-political/mildly questionable music and music spoiled by its very vile reactionary content, sorry for letting the music be spoiled for me when the lyrics disgust me... even though i like matisyahu's music, hearing him rant about his support of genocide in some songs just ruins it for me.
