Yes, this people think that the Earth is flat. Wow. And they have "scientific data and measurements backing their claims". Wow.
And this is not a satire, these fellas really believe this shit.

For centuries, mankind knew all there was to know about the shape of the Earth. It was a flat planet, shaped roughly like a circle, with lots of pointy things hanging down from the underside. On the comparatively smooth topside, Europe sat in the middle of the circle, with the other continents scattered about the fringes, and parts of Africa hanging over the edge. The oceans lapped against the sides of the Earth, and in places ran over, creating currents that would pull over the edge ships that ventured too far out to sea. The space beyond the edge of the world was a dark realm inhabited by all sorts of unholy beasts. Fire and brimstone billowed up from the very depths of hell itself and curled 'round the cliffs whose infinite length jutted straight down to the darkest depths . . . .
Then, in the year of our Lord fourteen-hundred and ninety-two, it all changed. For decades a small band of self-proclaimed "enlightened" individuals had been spouting their heretical nonsense that the Earth was in fact round. Citing "proof" based on nothing more than assumptions, half-truths and blind guesses, they dazzled the populace with their " . . . undeniable mathematical and scientific evidence . . . that the world is shaped not like a pancake, but an orange!"
Rightly wishing to dispel notions regarding the alleged citrus-like shape of our planet, the Church was able to either silence or execute nearly all the fanatics. But a small handful remained, continuing to spread their blasphemous speeches and to promote their heretical ideals involving the very center of the universe. One of their number, who called himself Grigori Efimovich, would later be known to the rest of the world as Christopher Columbus. Using an elaborate setup involving hundreds of mirrors and a few burlap sacks, he was able to create an illusion so convincing that it was actually believed he had sailed around the entire planet and landed in the West Indies. As we now know, he did not. What Efimovich actually did was sail across the Atlantic Ocean to a previously undiscovered continent, North America, and even then only to a small island off the coast. It took him several years more even to "discover" his blunder and claim it as a " . . . new world". But the damage had already been done, and mankind entered into what we now call its "Dark Ages" . . . .

I'm going to take a guess that the people who wrote this have never been outside their own houses. Or are engaged in an act of epic trolling.

For centuries, mankind knew all there was to know about the shape of the Earth. It was a flat planetfunny thing is that even their very first sentence is as false as you can get it. the idea that people pre-exploration believed the earth was flat was invented in 1882.
the "flat earth" was an purely theological concept, anyone who ever set foot outside a church, most notably sailors/captains knew perfectly well why on a clear day things (enemy war ships/pirates) on a perfectly flat surface (the sea) could hide behind the horizon, the only logical conclusion would be that the earth was round.
no news there, all scholars agreed already from 6th century B.C.
there was also never any controversy about it. wheter the sun circled the earth or the earth the sun, now that was sommething to debate and get worked up about. that the earth was round was a given.

Plus, it is by far the most stupid "evidence" for Moon landing conspiracy theory.
Tha NASA deceived us by showing us the "round" Earth from so-called "Moon", while they know the thruth, that the Earth is flat!
@red cat
Earth must be some kind of quadrilateral shape. The possibilities are:
A square
A non-square rectangle
A non-square rhombus (i.e. a "diamond" shape)
A non-rectangular, non-rhombic parallelogram
A trapezoid
A concave quadrilateral
An isosceles quadrilateral
A scalene quadrilateral
Priceless. But this is my favorite:
"Can I believe in the round Earth and still get into heaven?"
No. As you know, if you do not accept every word in the bible as literally true, you are not really accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and are doomed to burn in Hell for all eternity. God won't let any half-assed believers into heaven.

Not even that. As the wikipedia article points out, the round shape of the Earth was known and accepted since the 4th century B.C. - which is long before any churches existed.

These guys take the bible literally?
If a man sells his daughter as a servant, she is not to go free as menservants do. 8 If she does not please the master who has selected her for himself, [a] he must let her be redeemed. He has no right to sell her to foreigners, because he has broken faith with her. 9 If he selects her for his son, he must grant her the rights of a daughter. 10 If he marries another woman, he must not deprive the first one of her food, clothing and marital rights. 11 If he does not provide her with these three things, she is to go free, without any payment of money.
And he that smiteth his father, or his mother, shall be surely put to death.
10When thou goest forth to war against thine enemies, and the LORD thy God hath delivered them into thine hands, and thou hast taken them captive,
11And seest among the captives a beautiful woman, and hast a desire unto her, that thou wouldest have her to thy wife;
12Then thou shalt bring her home to thine house, and she shall shave her head, and pare her nails;
13And she shall put the raiment of her captivity from off her, and shall remain in thine house, and bewail her father and her mother a full month: and after that thou shalt go in unto her, and be her husband, and she shall be thy wife.
14And it shall be, if thou have no delight in her, then thou shalt let her go whither she will; but thou shalt not sell her at all for money, thou shalt not make merchandise of her, because thou hast humbled her.
Well, they sure are wackos, as are the ones who think God is against homosexuality.

It is logically impossible to take the entire Bible literally - and this absurd idea did not occur to anyone until a few hundred years ago.

Here's their forum (http://www.theflatearthsociety.org/forum/). I post on there sometimes, my username is Globularist. I lurked, and that is a slur against round-earthers used by one particularly crazy guy named James, who also while believing a satanic conspiracy exists to disprove a flat earth, also thinks that some dinosaurs had a sea-faring civilization.

I've heard the "written by humans, inspired by God" idea. Yet some say that even given this, that the Bible is still without error. Do you think the Bible is without error?

flat-earthers and creationists are two sects of irrational idiots who can't be reasoned with. the evidence for both the earth being round, and evolution, is so much.
as mentioned above, it is easy to demonstrate that the earth is round. watch a ship go towards the horizen. see how the last bits to go over at the top bits? (the top of the mast or chimney for example). flat-earth theory disproved! sucks to be such an idiot doesn't it!
evolution can be proved with only slightly more evidence.
anyway, those who are flat-earthers or creationists aren't just throwing out this little sub-set of science. they are throwing it all out. plate tectonics, radioactive decay, relativity etc.
so, fuck em, they aren't of any use to us.

I've heard the "written by humans, inspired by God" idea.
The view of the Orthodox and Catholic Churches is that the Bible is only part of God's revelation, and that trying to interpret Biblical text out of its proper context will usually lead to complete nonsense. It's not that a "literal interpretation" is wrong - it's that a "literal interpretation" does not exist. The Bible was written in Hebrew and Greek, not Lojban (http://www.lojban.org/tiki/Lojban), and it makes extensive use of metaphor (which is blatantly obvious to anyone except the willfully blind - there are several occasions when the text itself basically says "FYI, don't take this literally").
Yet some say that even given this, that the Bible is still without error. Do you think the Bible is without error?
Properly interpreted, yes, it is without error.
I emphasize that this need for proper interpretation is not a new idea. It was the universal position of all Christians prior to the Protestant Reformation, and for some time afterward, too. It took a while for Luther's statement that it is possible to find the proper interpretation on your own to transform into the present-day fundamentalist belief that it is inevitable to find the proper interpretation on your own (so that all you have to do is read the Bible and that will tell you everything you need to know).

Properly interpreted, yes, it is without error.
Considering that nobody speaks (natively) any of the languages it was originally written in, how can anyone claim to interpret it "properly"?

Um, the Bible was originally written in Hebrew and Greek. Both of those languages have native speakers today.
