View Full Version : 'Racial trash'

Hey comrades,

I'm going through Glenn Beck's latest crock of shit and I've so far found plenty of lies and quote mining and such, however apparently Marx used the words 'racial trash' to describe underdeveloped countries. I'm not going to trust Glenn Beck on this one and I can't find the words being used on marxists.org when I google them. When I look it up apparently the original word was 'Völkerabfälle' which was supposedly used in referral to a number of Eastern European countries.

Could somebody please show me where he said this?

EDIT: I'm also finding more quotes I can't dig up from his writings: "the chief mission of all other races and peoples, large and small, is to perish in the revolutionary holocaust."

even if marx did write it, beck pulled it (not suprisingly) completly out of context. The word Holocaust only got its current meaning in the 1960's

The term holocaust originally derived from the Greek (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_language) word holókauston (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holocaust_%28sacrifice%29), meaning a " whole (holos) burnt (kaustos)" sacrificial offering to a god [...] For hundreds of years, the word holocaust was used in English to denote massive sacrifices and great slaughters or massacres. During World War II, the word was used to describe Nazi atrocities regardless of whether the victims were Jews or non-Jews. Since the 1960s, the term has come to be used by scholars and popular writers to refer exclusively to the genocide of Jews(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Holocaust#Etymology_and_use_of_the_term) marx was already 80 years dead then.

so if anything that quote is just an dramatic way of saying that after the revolution the concept of race and nationality will be made irrelevant/non-existent, i.e. sommething as the maoist cultural revolution so completly contrary to what glenn beck wants it to mean.

I figured that. And I'm expecting Beck to be pretty much basing the 'documentary' on quote mining.

Fair enough, but I would like to find the piece of writing it has been taken from so I can refute Beck's propaganda.

So you're telling me that Beck is now trying to find racist things out of Communist writings from Che, Marx, others in order to make them look more Nazi-like and then equate them with Fascism and Free Market Capitalism with non-racism and freedom?

Maybe he should show an anti-racist Soviet cartoon and compare it to the many banned racist cartoons (directed at children) in the United States at the time.

If you have those cartoons, please tell me. I need them. :)

Go to youtube and look up banned cartoon and a whole list of racist Looney Toons cartoons will pop up.

Coal Black and the Seben Dwarves is one that's just awful.

Also look up Soviet Cartoons on youtube and you will find some great ones like:

Mashenkin Concert: Due to the generation and the time it's anti-racist message might be seen as racist today though. Regardless, the anti-American racism message is clear.

Valueable Kopeck: Teaches kids about the financial system.

Also watch this doc: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KV5sIGm70SE

It has a lot of great Soviet Cartoons that are anti-racist, anti-imperialist. Funny how they resemble cartoons today with the same message.

It goes to show that the US was fundamentally different than the nation we know today. What the Soviet Union was culturally; anti-racist, anti-corporate, anti-war is what the US is now and what it denounced in the past is what it embraces today. You will also see that the art today is inspired by the Soviets. Hmmm, it makes me wonder if the Soviets were impregnating the West with their ideals?

Yes. It is, quite frankly, disgusting that they hold that all that Hitler did was attack the religion of Judaism and find its secular basis in capitalism, while referring to violent measures against religion as nonsense; that's bollocks: He killed members of some 'Jewish race', and some other folks into the bargain. This belief is no better than, or even distinct from, Holocaust denial, and it ought to be treated as such.

I remember the word "holocaust" being used by new reporters on TV in the early 1960s to mean "a big fire." The word was used whenever there was a forest fire, or a fire in a city that was spreading from one building to another.

It seems it would originate from 'holocaust' meaning 'burnt offering', as that seems to have been a way it is used according to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holocaust_%28sacrifice%29). Indeed, the disambiguation page for the word includes:

Death by burning (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_by_burning), especially as a form of mass murder (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mass_murder) or mass destruction (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mass_destruction)

It would seem that it could quite easily turn into 'a big fire' from there.

I don't see the use in analyzing the original meaning of the word 'holocaust' if there is no source for such a quote to begin with. I suspect the most likely situation is that it’s simply a fabrication. Alternatively, it could be an intentional mistranslation, and that is a viable possibility as well. But I don't think we should treat the quote as legitimate when there is no evidence supporting its existence. Otherwise, there is the appearance of issuing apologetics for a clearly fucked up statement, which lends itself to all kinds of uncomfortable misconceptions...

Capitalists just invent those things about Marx. They cannot be taken seriously. The best we can do is to expose such blatant falsehoods about Marx and other revolutionaries and keep up our own propaganda.

No clue. Especially since the current population of Cuba is around 11.5 million. He must have been killing all day every day and sailing around Latin America killing to get that many dead.

Karl Marx was not the perfect human being. No one ever has been. But the accusations that the conservatives are poking at him are not only totally rediculous, but also making them hypercrites also.

Heck, even if Marx did use the phrase 'racial trash' (shame on him if actually true), who the hell are the Americans to cry bloody murder? You know what Im saying? Its like Americans think its fine to forget or defend their very own racist history, yet when someone from another country does it-flipping hell, its the most awfull behaviour on earth. Double standards or what.

14 million? No way. They're not that stupid. I thought the video hinted at 14k, not million. If I am wrong that it's another testament to the crazy length Beck will go to to rouse his stormtroopers.
