Hi; I've been reading this forum for the past couple of days so I thought I'd join :)
I consider myself to be an Anarcho-Communist and I feel my views can be summed up by 'Liberty, Equality, Unity'. I support the From each according to his abbilty and to each according to his need and Peacfully if we can forcibly if we must in regards to achieving the future. I'm an atheist and I believe that animals should be liberated to be equals with us: a world where all living things are equal and free.
I'm a fan of socialist fiction, like Orwell and Wells, and high fantasy novels - I'm also a fan of Classic rock, Prog rock, Punk and Metal buy also some classical.
So yeah, Hi:)!

just wondering, why do you think animals should be our "equals"? Like, mammals, or bugs, what?

I think think that animals should be considered equal as how I interpret the leftist idealogies, primarly communism and anarchism, I think that the revolution and the liberation should be extended so all things are equal, ie a human opressing say a cow is just as bad as the rich opressing the poor; obviously not all living things but perhaps just ones that are capable of independent thought - I haven't put alot of thought into this so sorry I'm being kinda vague but essentialy I think it would be selfish just for our own species to benifit from communism.

Cows are tasty though.
In all seriousness, I would love chimpanzees and elephants to have human rights.
Welcome. :)

But the problem is that other animals don't think, at least not in any sense of what it means for humans to think. The primary limitation other animals face in constructing thoughts is their lack of language. Their have no language in which to think their thoughts, therefore they do not think. They may symbolic memories, and have to calculate risk in making decisions, but animals do not think.

Right, a question for you: if you agree with the basic tenet of the communist/anarchist framework of ideas that the liberation of the working class can only be an act of its of self-emancipation and self-organisation, then we should surely expect nothing less from other animals (counting humans also as an species of the animal kingdom)? And if we agree that cows, for example, aren't going to fight for their liberation, who are we to make that decision for them?
Welcome :)

Welcome.
Animals appear not to have a (productive) language, but makes this thinking impossible? Is thinking limited to the mind? Are animals mindless?

There are definately some that are intelligent enough to be considered more or less equals to us.

I do see what you're saying and obviously we can't expect other animals to fight for their freedom, or turn up at an election however I do feel that other animals should also enjoy our freedom after the revolution but even though they're not going to fight for their freedom they're not actively opposing or countering the movement, like a neutral party so perhaps "equal" wasn't the right word for me to use but perhaps I should of said something more along the lines of "be liberated from 'inter-species Fascism'.
I have looke at the other comments and as I said this is really the first time I've ever actually written any of my political thoughts down so I do appoligise if this is all kinda vague or poorly written.
