So we have lost Random Precision, BobK, and Holden in like what, 3 days? Most of the other good posters who haven't been banned have stopped posting much. With all the drama and conflict that has flared up for the last month as well as the stead decline of interesting conversation material (though could just be me as I have been here a while and most discussions are repeats at this point), revleft seems to be a hallow shell of what it was when I joined. So I am left wondering, have the admins received what they expected?

That's not surprising, when all but 2-4 admins are politically inactive, and only use Revleft as social networking to fulfil a role that their real lives seem to lack. Most admins are adults, over 25 years old, who seem to attach too much attention to holding sway over a forum full of teenagers. :-/

My teacher was talking about communistic societies that existed in the earlier stages of human development, so i recommended Mutual Aid to her. :D
and the best part: she is extremely sympathetic to socialism, and infact labels herself as a conflict theorist (its sociology class) and is HIGHLY critical of capitalism.

by the time i had time for him again they where running because they saw the police comming. they got nicked though, wich on one hand was good because these where the kinda guys who could come back shooting later (being arrested means being ID'd and that means that they know that if anything happens at my work they are first on the suspect list), on the other hand it sucked bigtime because i was the only one punched i had to press charges wich is not my favorite part of the job.

did you get an error on boot? saying it cannot load boot or something like system overclock fail?
i got that error like that. one of the problems could either be with the PSU or with the RAM or anything in your PCI/AGP slots.
those were not actually the problem (i think) because i decided just to install windows 7 over it.

I had a friend look at it. One of the system files appears to be corrupted. I should be getting a boot disk tomorrow so I can fix the problem.

That's a Victorian myth. Of course there was a master plan for the cathedral - if all the various craftsmen did things their own individual way, then the whole thing wouldn't fit together.

True, but I feel that that's a particularly hard one to get meat out of, especially if you're going by the literature alone. If you go into the historical context of the work you could probably get some good material, but the work itself reminded me of the ancient literary equivalent of a Michael Bay movie.

It can get more ridiculous. I wrote a Marxist class analysis of "Wind in the Willows" for my Children's Literature paper once.
“Simply Messing About in Boats”: Implications of Class Struggle and Social Exclusion in The Wind and the Willows
A remark that seems to be often made about the Wind in the Willows is that the central characters in the book, Ratty, Mole, Badger and Toad, occupy a very paradoxical space. They possess all the benefits of adulthood, but can still enjoy the idyllic carelessness of childhood. “like adults, they look after themselves; like children, they don’t hold jobs, and they take the world’s comforts for granted” (Moore 47). However, I think there is a third, more sinister element that explains the little work they do and which underlies a lot of the action in this usually perceived “serene” and “peaceful” book. The main characters are members of the privileged bourgeois class in the idyllic, countryside world of Wind in the Willows. As Fred Inglis observed, they seem to “do no work, but… rule the river quite naturally” (Hunt 161). The rabbits, hedgehogs, stoats and weasels appear to be the animals that make up the proletariat. This association of animals with particular classes, presents the heavily stratified proletariat/bourgeoisie British class system of the time as not being a product of industrial capitalism, as the particular conditions of a certain time and place, but instead chooses to solidify it as part of the “natural order”.
While some critics have praised the book as being a “satire” of the British class system, with the “aristocratic” Toad “pretentiousness and foolishness” as “a ripe subject for Grahame’s humour” (eNotes), these critics do not account for the middle-class chauvinism displayed towards the proletariat in the text, or how Toad’s oafishness is presented as being unbecoming of his pseudo-aristocratic status (in reality he is more “Nouveau Riche”). As Moore pointed out, “Toad’s irresponsibility betrays weakness that is open to attack. He presents a flabby and decadent appearance to the lower orders” (56). As Boone observes, Toad’s obsession with motorcars is “ a common turn-of-the-century critique of the landed gentry for having given up its traditional authority – the governance of England, particularly rural England”. Toads “failure” is the cause for the vast majority of the social instability in the book, as Boone continues, in the Wind in the Willows “the result of the landed gentry’s abandonment is … uprisings on the part of the working classes whom the gentry no longer control” (90). When Toad is first sentenced for stealing a motorcar and he is brought out of the courthouse, a very interesting passage describes the scene:
“Then the brutal minions of the law fell upon the hapless Toad; loaded him with chains, and dragged him from the Court House … across the market-place, where the playful populace, always as severe upon detected crime as they are sympathetic an helpful when one is merely ‘wanted’, assailed him with jeers, carrots, and popular catch-words; past hooting school children, their innocent faces lit up with the pleasure they ever derive from the sight of a gentleman in difficulties” (109)
This is an interesting passage because it is loaded with implications. The “playful populace” is quite clearly the working class, and the first bolded extract is one of the many manifestations of chauvinistic generalizations of the working class in the book. The second bolded extract displays the nonchalant and sympathetic attitude given towards the rich Toad’s rather concerning crimes in the book, in contrast to the stern and serious attitude displayed towards anything that is seen as the working class enjoying themselves at the expense of the higher classes, whether it’s a crime, such as occupying Toad Hall, or if it’s simply workers engaging in the spectacle of a rich landowner getting a sentence they believe he rightfully deserves. As Boone points out, the “discomfort of Toad’s appearance before the hooting crowd has everything to do with the fact that, instead of the upper classes observing the working classes, the latter derive ‘pleasure … from the sight of a gentleman’ who momentarily possesses less power than they do” (91).
These blatant generalizations are in contrast to the highly individualized nature of the main characters. None of the rabbits, stouts, hedgehogs or weasels are ever given names. It is also interesting to note that the Water Rat, Toad, Badger and Mole are the only members of their species present in the novel.1 This individualization is in contrast to the proletarian animals that are portrayed as one big homogenous mass, with largely similar characteristics and traits. A passage that demonstrates these processes of individualization quite well is when the Wild Wood are first introduced:
“‘That? O, that’s just the Wild Wood,’ said the Rat shortly. ‘We don’t go there very much, we river-bankers.’
‘Aren’t they – aren’t they very [I]nice people in there?’ said the Mole, a trifle nervously.
‘W-e-ll,’ replied the Rat. ‘let me see. The squirrels are all right. And the rabbits – some of ‘em, but rabbits are a mixed lot. And then there’s Badger, of course. He lives right in the heart of it; wouldn’t live anywhere else, either, if you paid him to do it. Dear old Badger! Nobody interferes with him. They’d better not,’ he added significantly.
Why exactly would the residents of the Wild Wood bother Badger? And why is Badger such an authoritative figure? This passage is also interesting in that it shows a territorialisation of classes under capitalism, in which working class areas are ghettoized and dismissed by the higher classes as being dangerous areas overrun with crime and sinister characters. We saw it in Victorian and Edwardian times, such as the East End of London, and we still see it today in our own New Zealand society, with demagogues such as Michael Laws dismissing South Auckland as the “Manukau badlands”. (Stuff.co.nz) This view is confirmed as the passage continues, when Mole asks Ratty to clarify exactly why they’d interfere with Badger:
‘Why, who should interfere with him?’ asked the Mole.
‘Well, of course – there – are others,’ explained the Rat in a hesitating sort of way. ‘Weasels – and stoats – and foxes – and so on. They’re all right in a way – I’m very good friends with them – pass the time of day when we meet, and all that – but they break out sometimes, there’s no denying it, and then – well, you can’t really trust them, and that’s the fact’” (16)
It thus becomes more clear what exactly Ratty meant. As Moore commented on this passage, “Grahame’s Arcadia is thus starting to look more like a country club and his pastoral river bank more like the suburbs”. (55) The residents of the Wild Wood shouldn’t bother Badger because he’s associated with the middle-class of the countryside, personified by Mole, Ratty and Otter. What are they “breaking out” from? They are “breaking out” from their lower social status.
The more individualized working class characters in the book are all human, however they are never referred to by their actual names, but rather by their occupation or social status, such as the “barge woman”, “gaoler’s daughter”, “the gipsy”, “the washer woman”, etc and they are all observed through the rose-tinted point of view of the higher class main characters, as the usefulness in all of them to the story at large is what they can provide for the main characters, rather than having any aspirations of their own. John Hunt, in an article analysing the intersection of language and class in the Wind in the Willows, notes on how the washerwoman who gives Toad her clothes so he can escape “appears … only by report:
‘The only stipulation the old lady made being that she should be gagged and bound and dumped down in a corner. By this not very convincing artifice, she explained, aided by picturesque fiction which she could supply herself, she hoped to retain her situation, in spite of the suspicious appearance of things’ (131)
The late-Victorian ornateness [sic] of this example of ‘indirect tagged speech’ indicates a high degree of authorial control and distancing: the old lady’s speech is filtered through the authors watchful presence”. (164) I would also wonder, what exactly motivates the washerwoman to help Toad escape? A lot the subservient behaviour of the working class characters in this book is actually quite illogical, such as when Toad Hall is retaken. It is logical when, in the confusion of battle, the “panic-stricken” weasels to think the hall was “full of monstrous animals, grey, black, brown, and yellow”. (204) But once they’ve retreated, even after they’ve presumably realized it was only four people who took back the house, whom they could easily overpower, they’ve returned completely to their subservient positions. One of the weasels begs for forgiveness and places the blame on the rabble-rousing “Chief Weasel”, and is then employed by the main characters to give out invitation cards for their victory banquet. There is no trace of their previous class consciousness, it has apparently completely disappeared from their memories. Thus, as Boone observes “the final paragraph of the novel posits a return to the normative class relations, in which the ‘underground’ denizens of the Wild Wood apparently lose none of their physical prowess but are subdued by and accept their subordination to their middle-class River Bank neighbours, who go on observational excursions among the homes of the weasels”. (Boone 91)
The illogical behaviours of the Wild Wood residents, shows clearly that the Wind in the Willows is thus a middle-class fantasy. In which not only class divisions get solidified as being part of a “natural order”, but also in which any uprisings of the lower classes, which with all the organized labour and socialist movements of the time were perceived by middle-class England as serious threats, are very brief and discontinuous, and can be suppressed with incredibly simple methods and then everyone returns back to their natural (although in reality largely psychological) “place” in the class system. Social exclusion and suppression is a key feature of the story in The Wind in the Willows.

I'm thinking of smoking weed again, but i'm gonna try and exercise some more self-control with it i.e. not smoking weed every single night like I was before.
Thats what I usually smoke. Haven't smoked in like 2 1/2 months though, cirgrettes are too damned expensive. How much does a pack of Camels cost you over there in NZ? It's like $4.95 here.

I've only had Pall Mall cigarettes once...I stopped by a gas station because I was craving cigarettes (oddly enough), and I managed to scrape five dollars in change up from my car (I had no money at that point). Now, this being New York, five dollars ain't gonna buy you shit as far as cigarettes are concerned. I asked the guy who worked there what I could get for five dollars, and he said "Well, there's Pall Mall..." The cigarette box even came with a free lighter, so I was stoked. Little did I know...:(
I ended up only smoking a few of them and gave the rest of the pack away.

Ok i recently started lurking on /b/ and stumbled upon one of MANY disturbing threads. recently though im actually a bit worried about a recent one.

I haven't done it myself, but I've seen that field on various forums when registering, so that would seem to be the way to go.

(I wouldnt be surprised if 4chan was half full of Stormfronters or even the other way around)
Apparently they want to help EBM in court, call the cops about a stolen grocery bag, and drive by the camerawoman's house. Thankfully /b/ hardly delivers.

Just wanted to post here and say "this". I'd say this hits the nail on the head when it comes to most political discussions here, unfortunately. There is very much a tendency to just approach every issue with the same easy catchphrases, arrogant dismissals, etc.
