CCTV in the sky: police plan to use military-style spy drones
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2010/jan/23/cctv-sky-police-plan-drones?CMP=AFCYAH

Police (http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/police) in the UK are planning to use unmanned spy drones, controversially deployed in Afghanistan, for the "routine" monitoring of antisocial motorists, protesters, agricultural thieves and fly-tippers, in a significant expansion of covert state surveillance (http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/surveillance).....

See article.

EDIT- Could a mod correct the spelling mistake in the title? LOL!!!

I say fuck 'em. Anyway with the usual British bad weather and cloud cover they'll probably end up somewhere over Greenland.... :D

The flies or the drones?

Both of them preferably. I hate fly tippers too.

Next they'll be using vehicles to chase criminals.

Seriously, I am not convinced

a) how this is significantly worse then CCTV cameras in public areas, or
b) why CCTV cameras in public areas are bad in the first place.

Well, they want to put permanent armed police (with MP5s) on most council estates. Comparatively, this isn't as bad.

wow wtf, i didnt know england was that dangerous.

so far all the british i talk to are civilised and shit.

look like some people are really paranoid in the higher sphere of influence.

its really dumb tho, with all that video footage how the cops are supposed to figure out what to watch and when?

Drone technology would be awsome to help track people lost in the mountains or monitor zones struck by natural disasters.

such a waste.

Not if we revolt now.

Danny-

There was a postcard I found in Camden of the blue plaque outside George Orwell's former residence with a CCTV camera monitoring over the top... :(

I read that the average London resident travelling in and out of work everyday on public transport will be filmed approx 300 times.

(In case you are not aware, London residences of former historical figures have a blue plaque outside at the front detailing who lived there and the dates etc.)

with the number of people walking in london everyday, i seriously doubt of the capacity of the governement to use it efficiently against its citizens.

London suicide bomber where seen on camera multiple time but it actually didnt stop the terrorists to blow up buses and shit.

camera are really useless tool if you have too many of them.

i seriously doubt people look at it 24/7 a vast majority only record video feed.

another waste of technology.

A lot of crime in London though. Pickpocketing, mugging, knife crime, the like.

As with all crime, it is blown out of proportion but it's there.

LOL, "a lot of crime".

Yeah, there is a lot of crime but I can tell you it's blown way out of proportion, have you ever tried walking down the "murder mile" (supposedly the most dangerous part of London) in Clapton, Hackney around say, 10pm to 4am?

I've hung around pubs there for hours and never got any crap, it's all bullshit all of it really. The most dangerous places, are out of London, or remote deserted industrial areas, then again that's not just exclusive to this city or the UK in general is it.

I really don't see the issue. Are helicopters currently used in the Uk? Wouldn't this merely be a more cost effective method?

Not that I agree with either, but police in the skies have been a staple here for a long time.

Britain is turning into a police state. The govt. exploited the 7/7 bombing to study and control the public, just like the U.S. exploited 9/11 to attack Iraq.

It's a shame that all this is going on right under our noses and the public is looking the other way.

You just took what I said and repeated it but with the tone made a bit more arseholish.

What was the point of that?

Because you are repeating the mass media line, which is annoying.

Because I don't want filthy scumbags like this watching my every move:

But I agree, what ComradeMan posted is no worse than having a camera on every street corner, that however doesn't mean it shouldn't be oppossed.
