I am from New England, but currently at a small, right-wing liberal arts school in the Midwest. I was attracted to the school towards the end of a lengthy romance with anarcho-capitalism about two years ago. Since coming here I have set out to broaden my reading interests, etc.
By twists and turns I became a Democrat, then a European social democrat, then an anarchist, and am now at an essentially Leninist position, and although I can't claim to understand the underlying principles that well, I recognize the truth in the rhetoric and am here to learn more and strengthen my beliefs.
In everyday life at the school I am disgusted by the worship of the American narrative, as told, of course, through the economics and political science departments, which remain entirely ignorant of social history or any concession to modern analysis. The school is funded primarily by Evangelical Christian capitalists and the foundations and corporations they run. Free exchange of ideas is disallowed (if implicitly); activism is grounds for expulsion.
So, in this position, I hope that by becoming part of this community I can help myself resist indoctrination by the theocrats and the neoliberals, and maybe contribute something of my own.
Thanks,
DENY
