Supposedly it's one of the best love epics of all time. Is it true? Is it not only worth to buy but does it also have a relevant message?

It was okay, but not as good as I expected.
I think the romance storyline is too present.
It's quite pro-socialist, but you could see some scenes as having a slight anti-soviet thinge to it.

I thought it was good, despite its Hollywood moments. You have to be grateful for small favors with the American film industry, it's rare to see Communists in a positive light. It's worth renting for the depiction of the Russian Revolution and the foundation of the CPUSA. If you're a big Reed fan, Bondarchuk directed a Soviet version of Ten Days that Shook the World and a sequel, Insurgent Mexico, a Soviet-Mexican co-production.. both starring Franco Nero as John Reed . There is also another Mexican version of the latter book/film.

I liked it. Quite a remarkable film, considering that it was made in the Reagan era. I think Beatty is actually a liberal anti-communist, but a moral condemnation of communism is notably absent from this film.
By the way, I last saw it over 2 years ago. I bought it on DVD later, but I didn't get around to seeing it again for a long time. When I finally did it, I found out that it was supposed to be a double DVD box, but they only packed one of them, so I couldn't see the second half of the film. Fuckers!

Sergei Eisenstein also produced a silent film to mark the 10th anniversary of the Russian Revolution that is based on the book, Ten Days that Shook the World.

It's decent, interesting parts about the IWW and Beatty gives good performance, as usual.

i reallly liked it. its definitely a romantic drama but its really heavy on the politics. if your not into spilers then dont watch this, and if you dont care then watch away.

I concur with all the previous posts about the merits of Reds, but so far no one has mentioned the presence of the "Witnesses", documentary interviews with survivors who actually knew Reed and Bryant, drawn from across the political spectrum, inserted throughout the film as commentary on the action.

i think the witnesses were a nice touch, but that didnt really have much that was informative to say... for the most part. there were some exceptions.
