View Full Version : Would Disney World and Golds Gym be nationalized in a socialist system in USA?

Damn man i can't wait for a socialist system. In a socialist system in USA, the entertainments and pleasures would be more socialized to the society, so people would be able to join gyms, fitness centers, spas, take vacation cruises and enjoy life a lot more than under the current capitalist system of USA, where things like fitness clubs, vacation cruises, plastic surgeries etc. are only enjoyed the the bourgeoise classes

Nationalize Golds Gyms and Disney World !!

.

I think the title says it all. The question is meant as a genuinely socialist one, and not one which presupposes any sort of Marxist determinism etc.; taking into account all of capitalism's ills and contradictions, it appears to still be revolutionizing means of production as well as those involved in communication, bio-medicine etc.

We see many countries which have attempted to transition to a socialist mode of production, mostly through feudal or other pre-industrial configurations. Oftentimes, there are many gains but also the legitimacy of the worker's state (so-called or otherwise) is dependent upon the presumption of power over the long-term - allowing the development which would have needed to happen under capitalism in order to transition to socialism to occur - although the longer a socialist state is in power the more likely a revolution must combat opportunism, bureaucracy, coups, corruption...

Is it possible that capitalism is still in a revolutionary stage from mercantilism and feudalism? Socialists have been ready to transition from capitalism for more than 100 years now...were they premature then, and/or are we premature now?

This is not my abandonment from any progressive or revolutionary aims. Rather, a purely theoretical question which has been bothering me and some friends for a while. Thanks, in advance, for your input.

They should be turned over to the workers.

If I have anything to say about it, Disney World will be allowed to fall into disrepair and will become a park of ruins. People will be able to walk around, have a picnic, climb on the rides, and wonder in awe at the strange lengths capitalism went to keep its population amused.

Yes they should.

Though first priorities would be getting food, homes and health to everyone first, as life quality rises, spas, fitness centers, gyms, and vacations will start being ''basic'' needs.

Disney Land would have to go. There is evil in that place that does not sleep. The very air you breathe is a toxic gas. Build other theme parks we must and shall, but Disney Land, that monument to one of the most evil corporations on Earth, that Mecca of pedophiles, must go. Transform it into a Red Army training range. Mr. Toads Wild Ride should be turned into an indoor urban combat simulator. That ride is traumatizing for a three 1/2 year old.

For the record I'm all about entertainment. I just want to see DisneyLand and all its appanage parts turned into weapons testing ranges.

No weapons plz !! no fascism, no deaths, no blood and no more wars !! what we need is pleasure, peace and entertainment !! and Disney World is not evil at all, only irrational conspiracy theorists see evil in Disney World's ride. The only *evil* i see of Disney World is the entrance price, and the exploitation of workers. But i think that Disney World would be a paradise if owned by the workers-state and workers.

The entertainment provided by places like Disney Land is anything but innocent, instead, it is a tool of the bourgeois culture industry aimed at reproducing class relations, albeit in a rather subtle way. Instead of reappropriating the remnants of bourgeois culture, I would hope that post-revolution we will, for the first time in history, develop a truly human culture to serve our needs.

True, but the infrastructure of Disneyland is not the problem in and of itself... The ideas are. Yeah, it should probably be renamed and perhaps it would behoove of us to neglect certain stories that have come out of that camp (if not most of them!) that reinforce class, race and gender dynamics of capitalism but I think a theme park based on cartoons and kids stories is a cool idea, and destroying the complex is counterproductive. I'm obviously not arguing for a continuation of Disneyland in its current form, but in a new and better one that does serve our need... for entertainment.

They will be turned into Marx Land and Engels' Gym, of course.

I'm finding this thread to be hilarious. Some of us on the left get off way to easily on the idea of destroying all things bourgeois. It isn't are job to destroy all bourgeois creations, its our job to conquer them.

The existence of capitalism created the conditions for socialism, and for that reason alone we shouldn't try to hide the history of capitalism. Disneyland should exist as a reminder that capitalism existed to be conquered.

IMO, Gyms would be considered military property, considering that capitalist nations would be bombing us left and right, and we would need a strong, well-trained military.

Free, worker-run disneyworld/land. You bet - plus with drugs decriminalized and probably de-stigmatized Pirates of the Caribbean (retitled Primitive Accumulation Fun-Time Ride) and the Haunted Mansion would be fantastic on LSD.

Also it would be fun to see the Hall of Revolutionaries where animitronic Marx tells crowds of children about the falling rate of profit.

And that "It's a Small World..." ride would be changed to "Workers of the World Unite" ride and the racist stereotypes would be gone and instead of singing that shitty song, the animitronic puppets would sing the International.

...We would need to change the name from "The Magic Kingdom" to "the Materialist Commune"

I'm only going to say this once... Fuck with my Pirates of the Caribbean... And you die.

Are you willing to catch a 40mm rifle grenade for your beloved animatronic pirates? Because that's what will be flying at them. But we REALLY got to fuck up Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. For the children's sake.

I'm down with this. Mickey Mouse will be taking RPG-7s to the face daily if there is any honour and justice in the world.

It should be socialized, but we have to change the name from 'Walt Disney World' to something else. Walt Disney was very anti-semetic and racist.

I'm with most people about Disney, with the exception of Bambi. If anyone tries to ban Bambi, I will fuck them up so bad they won't be able to recognise their own mother.

They will be turned into Lenin-park and revolution gym. In Lenin-park you gaze at vast statues and monuments of Lenin, and in revolution gym kids would learn hands-on about putting up a revolutionary movement.

Oh lawd,, it will be like all those horrific scenes of lots of kids doing exercises that somehow is meant to be symbolic of communism in 'Sicko'.

Poke fun all you want, but there's no doubt the bourgeoisie conspire to reproduce class relations by means of the form and content of the culture they manufacture for us.
