Hello (again) i've reading this forum for the past weeks and decided to join in.
I come from Portugal, a country with over a million left-wingers sympathizers wich is about 10% of the population (voters and non-voters). It's a impressive number but the right still dominates in a two-party dictatorship (one party is repression, two parties is democracy:rolleyes:) by two parties who are more right-winged than theire names (neither the social democrats are social democrats nor the socialists are socialists or even social democrats) with frequent alliances with populists christian democrats. Altough there are elections and don't think to be extreme to call it a dictartorship because our education system is designed to make people get high scores, so they can find a job, to focus on their carrers, themselves and "screw everything else!". And then appears politicians with speeches that defies the basis of logic and argument but atract the majority that don't want to think much in politics because they're busy trying to move up the ladder and buy Jonas Brother tickets to their kids. Even more problematic, I see the youth becoming very racist wich could be a problem in years to come.
Speaking on myself, I was raised in middle class and my close family is leftist, and the majority is or was afilliated with the Portuguese Communist Party, my favorite party although i'm not a fully marxist-leninist. Being 18, i'm still finding what is my communist doctrine. Still, I have a lot of respect for left-wing anarchists for their rebellious attitude that lacks in many communist parties and youths.
I think that the re-raise of leftism only can be achieved with the unity of the leftists movements. How can the workers unite if the organized struggle isn't? There should be a real 5th International with the goal to unite all leftists against capitalism.
I hope to learn and contribute to this forum.
P.S.: A great plus on being a portuguese communist is to attend the great music festival Festa do Avante!, and A Carvalhesa is one hell of a song! Every communist should come to this festival (or similar festivals around the world) because is the best environment. (if you go, please don't go all crazy if you find a Pizza Hut-alike stand, it's mainly for kids that don't enjoy proper food)
