Hello,
My name is Peter and I am from a country in Eastern Europe called Bulgaria. I am a teenager, and have been interested in left-wing politics for quite a while now. It all started out with my dissatisfaction with the Western schools I studied at. I decided that there must be an alternative to capitalism and I became interested in communism. At first I was fascinated with the USSR, but that was when I was an infantile socialist. I enjoy reading all types of philosophical, political, scientific and historical literature. I have read a lot of things by Marx and Engels, some things by Lenin, Kropotkin, Bakunin, Pannekoek, Chomsky, Daniel DeLeon, Einstein and other socialists. From the opposition I have read some works by Mussolini, Schicklgruber's infamous Mein Kampf, Smith, some speeches by Reagan and I constantly have to argue with either people who have succumbed to the influence of the mass medias or with people who still believe in the life of capitalism (if that counts).
I used to consider myself an Orthodox Marxist at first, but my views seem to coincide more with those of the famous anarchist communist Pyotr Kropotkin (and other communists who propose a more de-centralized form of government). Now I call myself a Libertarian socialist. I don't stick to any idea. I am willing to accept all sorts of new ideas, if they are backed and progressive. I believe that one day when I gather enough knowledge I will be able to develop an ideology of my own, or at least be part of something entirely new. I disagree with Leninism, Stalinism or any other authoritarian form of socialism. I consider these ideologies proto-fascist and right-wing. I used to think that all authority is unjust authority, but my personal experienced proved otherwise. I just came to the conclusion that work cannot be done without authority. The problem is not in the existence of authority itself, it is in the authorities. In my opinion the problem of society lies in the fact that the USA started a trend of protecting the rights of the minority over the will of the majority. I consider myself an advocate of the right of the majority over the minority – this is the only just form of authority.
The left-wing scenery in my country is a joke. The newly crowned right-wing government tries to tie genuine communism to the totalitarian grotesque of Eastern Europe, therefore people have no idea of what my beliefs are. The mass-media has "evacuated" the word socialism of content, relating it only to the infamous BSP - Bulgarian Socialist Party. Nevertheless, poverty and unemployment are worse than ever before. The "revolutionary left" scene in Bulgaria is also a joke. It is composed of a single community of about a 1000 people who call themselves The 23rd of September (after the date of the bloody massacre against the Bulgarian left in the 1920s). I have developed a dislike for them, however, since their goals aren't to establish a new socialist order, but instead to bring back the oppressive Stalinist regime of pre-1989, which ruined the face of socialism worldwide and delayed the collapse of the imperialist corporatist regime with at least a few decades. We are pretty much ruled by the police and mafia here, and I am sure some policeman is reading this as we speak. I like to say that my country is composed of only 30% PEOPLE. 30% are gypsies who exploit the welfare system, 20% are thugs and 20% are their wives.
I have to admit that I don’t know anything about RevLeft.com. I just registered because I felt like speaking to comrades with a similar “weltanschauung”. You might find me quite strange because I am opposed to all the perversions of dedushka Lenin and his successors. I don’t believe in the differentiation between “socialism” and “communism” that the Russians introduced. I consider Socialism and ideology that is divided in Socialdemocracy and Communism, one being the peaceful approach and the other – the revolutionary. You will find me using socialism and communism interchangeably.
Sorry for the lengthy introduction.
