My dad tried to convert me to Christianity or something with some bullshit line: "You dont have to be religious but you must have faith in God". I nearly lol'd. Anyhow, what are some counter arguements against religion for why I am an atheist?

You don't need arguments for atheism because religion needs arguments to justify it's existence. Some religious nuts say they have faith so they don't have to prove anything, but this is just bullshit. All religious dudes/dudettes will
a)have to defend faith, and faith based terrorism
b)show some proof for the existence of god
c)be hypocritical morons
Because no-one is prepared to go with a or b, they are all c.

say to your dad that you have faith in yourself and you don't need god. tell him that even if god exist, and even if god created us, he/she didn't need that we pray him/her because it is obviously that our genetic is not programmed to pray god. it is human imagination that we should pray to someone who, let's say, created us. human don't need that robot believe in human and to pray, so it is stupidity of robot if he thinks that he should pray to us.
faith in god need only people who felt down in their head because of some reason or who are very near to death because of some sickness, etc. such faith is produced by human ego which bring us to mental suffering when we can't accept some situation (sickness, death, or whatever). but surely, if we take presumption that god created us, it is clear that god didn't create us to pray him or to believe in him, babies are born with clear brain. there is no baby who pray automatically or who believe automatically from moment of coming in this world.

Tell him you don't want to do things out of the fear for "god". Tell him that you can do the right things only if you actually understand them to be right, not because god told you to. Faith in god implies too many things. Does he mean for you to have faith in god's instructions to stone adulterers? Tell him you are capable of being good without "god".

some bullshit line: "You dont have to be religious but you must have faith in God".
"Faith" means believing in a proposition even though you don't have any good reason to believe in it. If you had a good reason to believe in it, then it wouldn't be called "faith" -- it would be called something like "the only logical conclusion", "the conclusion that has been drawn from the evidence", or something like that.

I consider myself an agnostic atheist (because I'm not 100% absolutely sure there is no God, just as I am also not 100% absolutely sure there are no dragons. Even Richard Dawkins considers himself this). And here is my argument: There is no evidence for God, whatsoever, nor is there anything that points to God being a necessity as something that exists. It is, therefore, illogical to believe in God.

I dissagree.
We don't have to defend Stalin's Purges or Pol-Pot's crimes, neither do all religious people have to defend the crusades, pat buchanan or osama bin Laden.

We don't have to defend massacres, because the mass murderers have to explain themselves. This is because neither the mass murders, or our ideas are baised on faith, and therefor require explanation. Faith only requires faith, and is therefor a universal phenomenon.

Haven't read the whole thing myself, although I've read some. From what I remember it's really quite good.

Go Voltaire on them and say "You don't necessarily believe there is a god, but don't discount his existence entirely, as that would be presumptuous".
Then discuss nicer things.

I have to deal with the same shit from my mum, she wanted to take my son to mass twice over xmas, but I refused. What really pissed me off is my dad who's supposed to be an atheist suggesting I go just to appease my mum... I just said that they are entitled to there beliefs but she can't take my boy till he's old enough to decide for himself. That doesn't mean he's not gonna be brought up being taught that organised relgion is bullshit.

You will not have to worry about wither you're going to hell or to heaven because you do not believe in neither of them and people stress themselves out and make their self sick just worrying about that stuff because they made a mistake they were sorry for.
