I'm taking a Sociology of Social Movements class, and I have to give a presentation on a social movement of my choice. Naturally, I'm leaning towards socialist/communist movements, but I only have 20 mins and obviously I can't give the whole modern history of Communism.

I was thinking of focusing on either on modern Western radical militant movements (e.g. Black Liberation Army, Black Panthers, Weather Underground, RAF, Red Brigades.. I wouldn't glorify these militant groups, but rather explore their ideologies and how they ended up destroying themselves), "Third World" movements (e.g. EZLN, FARC, Nepalese and Indian Maoists, etc), or maybe something else.

Could anyone give me suggestions as to what direction I could possibly take? Your help is much appreciated!

This'd be cool. I might be able to get you some good info on it.

About the Panthers though, I don't think it's fair to say they "destroyed themselves". They were systematically wiped out by state violence.

I can provide a good reading list on either the flq or the bpp and other militant black groups.
